Aye Raibeart,
We love the practice of greeting new members and inviting them to be friends. We have benefited by many such greetings in the past, so we extend this gift to all who arrive in new communities.
We have been less formal here, than with PeaceNext, our standard friend invitation in PeaceNext goes something like this:
Welcome XXX,
We hope you find what you seek here with PeaceNext.
We have no official capacity with PeaceNext.
Namaste...
PeaceNext's message editor catches our mistakes if we forget to replace XXX with a new member's name; they are another Ning site so the same property should be part of the editor here...
Perhaps we may greet you on PeaceNext one day and fail to recognize you as we nearly did with sister Temple Crone...
We think that if a formal greeeting tone is used in a friend request it may be important, in some groups, to clearly specify your relationship to the parent organization, however in Temple Illuminatus it may not matter so much, as this community may be considerably less formal than on PeaceNext.
Opinions?
Hi brother Chadi,
We love esoteric discussion of colors, but this may be a bit off-topic so we thought we might direct a potentially off-topic dialogue away from this area.
We have replied to your recent comment on your profile, here, at 4:19pm on April 14, 2011 <-- useful to know if someone comes along much later...
Not sure what the best etiquette for such events as this^^^ might be.
Suggestions?
QUESTIONS:
We questions about two categories, at least one was started by Beverly...
How do we see who Leila sponsors a category for?
The two categories we are asking about are:
Astral Projection and OBEs |
Alchemy the Art of Transmutation |
Beverly has asked us to make all of our discussions in the Alchemy category part of her OBE category.
Not only is this cumbersome and very time-consuming, but comments in one area would be widowed from comments in the other area or perhaps duplicated.
How do we create a BOX with an updateable post without comment options that we may list the discussions in one subject area in from another category or general forum discussion?
Are there suggestions for other work-arounds?
Ideally, we need a search engine driven indexing system... dunno how to implement that....
Leila, thanks for the quickie reply sister, your suggestion to use a Discussion and edit it regularly may be the best approach. Now get our of our head hon, or mebbe we should get out of yours?
Ain't telepathy grand?
Blessed be...
COLORS
For ourselves, yellow on a black background is an excellent default choice.
We associate yellow with mind and communication of intellect.
Another very good communication color is blue, for the sixth chakra, mind is the third chakra, often associated with the solar plexus and ego.
Black is source. White is black, for if we gaze too long directly into the white light we are blinded and light only returns when we look away again...
But then opposites converge, extremes meet; the Kyballion, Principle of Polarity...
Enjoy!
Did we metion proofreading? we still missed 'guidleines' hehe...
Guidelines for more effective writing
Um, we think a prominent post for people wanting to learn more effective web etiquette communications tactics may be in order.
Some ideas for such a post might be:
Address your audience.
Many people contribute to long threads that may confuse readers new to the thread.
By always addressing your audience you help people become oriented more quickly to your topic, you make it easier to follow the exchanges of ideas.
If you are speaking to an individual, be sure you name them to get their attention, and so that someone else is not confused and possibly may mistake themselves or someone else as your specific audience
Address your topic.
Please do not presume that everyone will know your topic, just a few words that describe the topic of a thread or a point within the thread you are speaking about may help context your messages and make them more effective.
Identify your acronyms.
Link suggested reading or research.
Proofread several times.
Writing is a very tricky art form. It is often easy to miss details that may make your work much clearer. We sometimes miss details that accidentally make our words say the opposite of what we intend.
Context your feelings and ideas.
Please remember that you are representing your ideas and emotions to a gerneal audience, many of your beliefs or ways of feeling about things may be unfamiliar to other people, so take the time to spell out details that may seem obvious to you that may be unfamiliar or out of context to your readers.
We reckon there are a few more of these ideas to gather up, but we think you understand what we are aiming for here.
When we encounter anyone who consistently posts messages that are difficult to read for any of these reasons we can gently refer them to these guidelines, or use these guidelines as a tool to help us critique their work more effectively.
If these guidleines already exist, perhaps someone can gently guide us to them so we may use them more effectively?
Thanks!
<singing> just another brick in the wall...
