While technically this is the sad ending of a tree that has already passed through to the higher plane to be with our creator but there was one young person that did appreciate this tree's loving presence in her yard which many might have taken for granted. A young child that did shed tears for her majestic friend that past away while many slept silently going back to where it was first thought about as a young seedling.
Few of us mortals, understand the life and beauty of our trees beyond our own selfish thoughts and concerns, not realizing their gentleness and strength are gifts from mother earth and father creation. That without deep nurturing of its roots, it wouldn't have lasted to become big and strong to hold such a splendid display of leaves of green during the spring only to shed there leaves as there color changes in the fall. Gracefully yet softly as the wind blows until the cold winds blow ice and snow to beat at a tree, year after year. Until it grow tired and weary of the fight and longs for home. Like all things do eventually, as we go through life enjoying happiness and sorrow..
It is nice to know this lone tree wasn't forgotten as it withered away with decay, its mortals that had cared for it as a mature tree continued to let the old tree stay while their children played in the yard under its watchful care until it was time for safety sake to have it removed. Sad but still able to give one small mortal a parting gift of love, a reminder of time spent together under blue skies and bright sunlight or perhaps on a cloudy day that was pleasant to be outdoors breathing in comforting peace while it stood as a centenarian listening for its ever-knowing faithful creator to call it home once more.
In passing, through caring hands and hearts tried to aid a grieving girl with a parting gift of the old tree, a stool for her to use and admire from the stump that once stood the mighty solid tree. Eventually the heart will mend as happy memories remain....I like to think perhaps sometime in the future our young lady will consider planting tree seedling some place, some where in honor of her favored friend the old tree. So that mother earth can again continue her cycle of life with growing, loving, nurturing a new tree for another young mortal to enjoy as a silent, patient strong shade tree to offer its branches to wild friends and for others to enjoy.
