Ingredients
1 kg of peeled pumpkin
2 cups of crystal or demerara sugar (400 grams)
5 cloves
1 cinnamon stick

Gather the ingredients to make the most traditional pumpkin sweet, made to accompany bread or toast early in the morning, or in the middle of the afternoon;
On a cutting board, cut the skins off the pumpkin. Place it on its base and slice the skins, trying to remove as little of the pumpkin as possible and as much of the outside of the vegetable as possible;
Cut the pumpkin in half and cut it into strips of about 1.5 cm. Then cut these strips into small cubes to make cooking easier and more uniform;
Transfer the pumpkin cubes to a large saucepan, add the sugar, cloves and cinnamon stick. Turn the heat to low and let it cook for about 30 minutes;
After the first 30 minutes, it will be necessary to cook the pumpkin for another 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent it from burning and until it reaches the paste consistency;It is not necessary to reduce all the liquid in the sweet, keep stirring and, when there is a little bit of syrup left, turn off the heat. Transfer to a sterilized dish or jar and let it cool. Serve this pumpkin sweet as a dessert or with a slice of white cheese. Enjoy!
