Rhythm of the Heart

 I didn't notice the cold early morning air as I made my way down the dark footpath this morning.

A soft snow fell and glistened here and there, where there was light from a distant street lamp.

It danced in the wind, swirling in spirals before falling softly to the ground.

I came to welcome the sunrise, I knew it had a lesson for me, Though not what that lesson would be.

I stood quietly on the banks of the river with the forest to my back.

With closed eyes, I listened and waited so patiently, not wanting to miss anything

With each breath I surrendered.

With each heartbeat I opened to the heart of the Mother, and in the stillness,

I matched my heartbeat to hers.

Soon, my senses came alive,

I heard the ancestors welcome me, their voices in the wind, "listen, and feel the drum!", they tell me.

And in the stillness I feel the drum beneath my feet, deep inside the Mother.

 

The river sings her song, with glistening pure notes as she flows swiftly over the Grandfather rocks.

She is silver tongued with a free spirit.

 Birds begin to wake, Small chickadees nestled into the trees behind me, add their song to hers .

They come to greet the sun with me, I think.

And soon, through closed eyes, I detect a soft light on the horizon.

The first beams slowly rise and I sing my Cherokee morning song that my grandmother taught me,

she said it is my heartsong.

"wen'de ya ho, wen' de ya wen'de ya aho" "

We are made of the same spirit, it is so"

. The sun continues it's path and I watch it... waiting I open my heart to it and feel the connection,

the warmth of it entering my heart....

my heart picking up its rhythm and the message...

 "Come alive Adawehi,

wake once more and feel the rhythm of the universe

 make it yours, match your heart to all around you, and come alive"
