Yes, welcome to all the new members ` first, a Blessed Beltane to all in the Northern Hemisphere, and a Blessed Samhain to everyone living in the South!

Yep, it's Halloween here~ still can't quite get used to it :)

Beltane marks a point on the Wheel of the Year, and epitomises growth and flourishing.Beltane is a fertility festival, and both of these festivals are among the most powerful times of the year, magickally speaking ~ Goddesses honoured over Beltane include Venus/Aphrodite, Demeter and the Graces and Muses.

So for myself, over Samhain,  it is a time of shedding of unwanted influences, and to do this means bringing everything out of the closet to be examined and dealt with ~ or otherwise, progress is delayed, and we don't want that !

and Swirls, those petroglyphs include Spirals, Venus symbols, Stars and the Encircled Cross.

The amazing thing is that the rock into which these are engraved, is Glaciated.

That means simply that these symbols were carved into the hardest rock on the planet, sometime before the last Ice Age. Fascinating... there are more of these symbols in traditional Ju(San/Bushman, as the people were called at one stage) rock art.

I have seen one which is a drawing of an ovoid spacecraft as well as many showing the transformation of the Shaman into animal forms, including Lions and Antelope.

@ Cian...yes Cian is also over here in Ireland too...but then there are many similarities between the celtic names ;)

@ swirls...Yes dearest, Gaia is a Goddess I feel particularly close to. I feel her energy pulses, her heart beat....I change as she changes.  And for me, ALL life of this Earth is sacred and as you said, it is our responsibility to protect and honour this life and earth we are blessed to share.  Its one of a few things I am here to do methinks ;)  Love and blessings to you :)

Thanks, Boudicca, it's really more than fine, though ~ I found myself wondering why people were so upset, this may sound cold-hearted but it'd exactly the opposite! We all miss interacting with our loved ones who have moved on, but without going into too much detail, it is true that when we are ready to move on from this Earthly plane, life does not end.

Death is the beginning of the greatest adventure in life.

As you say, the Serpent is symbolic of Life as it sheds the old skin that fitted so well, leaving it behind for a new, shining one. So , death is just a very temporary phase in the endless cycles of Life renewed. In this case, death does not only mean the physical death that is inevitable ~ it is also the death of old, worn and outdated attachments, or thought-forms, that retard our spiritual progress. Any change can be seen as a miniature death, or conclusion ~ with a new beginning always, of course :).

I understand what you are saying about death Zu.  For I lost my mother, sister and brother all in 13 years and was not there to see them as they all died suddenly.  I know they have been with me at various times and my belief that we move on, transform, shed the skin of this lifetime, has helped me tremendously.

I am sorry for your loss though honey and send love.

Hi Zu...Lizzie is a bearded dragon....lol....go figure!! ;)  She really knows her heritage is so much more than a small lizard and has the attitude to go with it.  She loves to get out and run around the kitchen floor where she owns the floor!! 

Larry is quite aggressive due to his beginnings but he does know me as if my partner goes near him, he just ignores him.  If I go up to the tank and talk to him, he looks right up at me!  Its so magical!  I am just so happy he is healthy and happier than he was and now fully grown at 4.5 feet long.  We have replicated his natural surroundings as much as possible so as to allow him to be what he is.

Swirls, I have always found Goddess in Nature, and in the little things, the subtle changing of perceptions and all of the rewarding and joyful moments, the flashes of inspiration, the will-power and daring to do what is right for oneself for a change , and then being able to actually see oneself as part of the Cosmos, that everyone and every Tree has the same light energy within, and also, for me, the Goddess has taught me all about Death, which I have learned to love as much as life. The Goddess has shown me that I do not have to fear death, as three of my close family members had passed away within the space of a year, around three years ago, and I promise you if it wasn't for the Goddess I don't know how I would have coped so well and then being able to support the others who were affected by the suddenness of it all.

For me, knowing that my loved ones are in a better place beyond any doubt, has given me so much more in enjoying and celebrating my life ~ and I have learnt how to dance with the dead as well as the living :) Just rambling on a bit this afternoon ~ and thank you for introducing the topic, I bet a lot of others have had certain unforgettable moments and maybe wish to share one :)
