Summer Solstice Celebration Ideas

The Summer Solstice is on June 20th (you can check here for the specific time at your location). I answered an ask about this a few days ago but the Summer Solstice is best and most often celebrated with flowers and with fire in celebration of the sun and the growth it provides. So here are just a few things I compiled for myself and others that you can do to celebrate the solstice this year:

Solstice Recipes:

Berry Vodka Spritzers

Gingersnap Key Lime Pie

Lemon Cake

Sun Cookies

Solstice Crafts:

Flower wreaths

Wish trees or wish boxes

Flower crowns

Bath bomb making (use citrus for extra summer feeling)

Solstice Things to do:

Have a bonfire

Set out candles

Buy sparklers and poppers

Have an outdoor afternoon solstice party

Summer Solstice & Full Moon

Reminder that this year, at least here in the Western side of the world, Summer Solstice AND Full Moon gonna be on EXACTLY the same date (June 20th, 2016).

This only happens every so many years. Like, the last time was in 1986, and the next time gonna be I’m 2062, as far as I know.

Therefore, get ready for A LOT of magic, energy, and blessings for all of you.

Summer Solstice/ Midsummer by SunRay Sorceress

20th - 23rd of June

Litha is the Summer Solstice, it is midsummer - the longest day and the shortest night of the year.

Solstice is a time to stand still, to stop and take stock of our lives and what we are doing, to celebrate what we have achieved and to acknowledge our failures, make sense of our actions and learn from them.

The Summer Solstice is a time to count our blessings, to celebrate life and pass on the spirit of generosity and goodwill.

The Earth is pregnant with the coming harvest and the Sun is at His peak.

~SYMBOLS~

Fire, Sun, Oak Trees, Sun Wheels, Flowers, Sunflowers, Fruit, Faeries, Sickles, Seashells and Circles.

~IN THE GARDEN~

The Summer Solstice is an excellent time to harvest herbs for drying, to use in magical works. Herbs collected on the eve of midsummer or early in the morning, have a special kind of energy. Remember to keep dead heading the flowers as this as this will encourage new ones. Save the flower heads and dry them to use the petals for incense and magical workings.

~HERBS~

Chamomile, Rose, Honeysuckle, Oak, Ivy, Lavender, Yarrow, Elder, Thyme, Carnation, Mugwort, Fennel, Ginger, Lemon, Basil and St John’s Wort.

~COLOURS~

Yellow, Gold, Green, Blue, Orange, White and Red.

~SPELL WORKINGS~

Abundance, Wishes, Love, Healing and Prosperity.

This is a small portion from a wise Priestess and I highly recommend this book to all Witches, be they New path or Crone. It is full of meditations, correspondences, magical workings and even a bit of Hoodoo plus so much more.

1 : Summer Solstice Honey Cookies

“Looking for a festive way to celebrate the upcoming summer solstice? Well these aromatic sunny cookies may be just the ticket. Made with sacred herbs and flowers of the sun, they’re filled with the gathering magic of midsummer traditions. And served up at a summer solstice picnic, they will delight young and old. After, all doesn’t everyone love a pretty cookie?”

2 : Summer Solstice Collins

“This cocktail is a take on a Tom Collins but with a twist. Instead of gin I’ve used vodka and added some blood orange liqueur to the mix. A bit more lemon seals the deal and the result is a light, crisp and altogether refreshing cocktail for summer or in this case, summer solstice!”
