Jahi Live!
“Jahi the Whore was a goddess of the Moon, menstruation and sex. The Persians said Jahi mated with the serpent Ahriman and brought menstruation into the world. Therefore, since all women decended from Jahi, all women were whores to the Persians.”
~ D.J Conway
What became known as Persia later on in time was originally Sumer and Mesopotamia, one of the original centers of human civilization. After the advent of parochial nationalism, the region became known as Iraq and Iran.
Now for all time since the beginnings of the human race some 1.2 million years ago, Jahi is the primordial Spirit of all Creation. The Great Mother; the first Goddess, and therefore the first Woman.
Those readers who are familiar with other Goddess Legends of Creation such as that of Diana and Lucifer; Ma-Nu and Apophis and Tiamat and Kingu, will recall the legend of the Goddess Eurynome and the Serpent, Ophion, wherein all Creation results from the union of Goddess and serpent parthenogenically conceived..
In the ancestral legend which closely parallels the Ophite as well as the Mesopotamian, Egyptian and Etruscan legends of Creation of the primeval Goddess and the Cosmic Serpent; Jahi dwelt alone for countless Aeons in silence, the silence of the dark, moist womb where the deepest potential for life gestates.
The vast reaches of the Cosmos were seemingly empty, yet, unseen in the silence and perfect Equilibrium of the Great Universal Mother, something stirred.
Wishing to create the splendors of the galaxies and countless worlds from within of Herself, the Goddess stirred a faint, spiral breath of vital air into motion. Spiralling ever from the very core of the All-Mother’s being, the magickal wisp sparkled with translucent light and became to take on the form of a giant serpent ~ the Dragon, Ahriman.
Taken with an irresistible desire to join once again with with the Light, the Goddess sought to take Ahriman back into Her darkness again. Ahriman fled to the furthest reaches of the dark Abyss of the Void, as a mouse flies before the cat.
The charms of the Goddess, the Divine Feminine Principle of the Universe, were too much for Ahriman to resist after some millennia had passed in the space of Time which had begun since his conception, and the great serpent eventually succumbed to Her heart’s desire.
With a tremulous shudder that crashed in waves of passion, causing every recess of the ever-expanding Abyss to resonate with thundering ecstasy, the Goddess and Her Dragon joined together in sacred sexual union.
This was the first Hieros Gamos, the divine union of masculine and feminine principles which is necessary for the perpetuation of all cycles of existence.
Ahriman coiled around the Cosmic Egg which was born of Jahi, and incubated the Egg with a devoted parent’s love until it hatched forth all of Creation.
As a result of this divine sexual union, fertility was guaranteed throughout the entire cosmic realm, regulated by the cycles of the Lunar and Solar discs of the Heavens.
As Jahi is the mother of all women, winged serpents of Time and of menstruation; the ancient Priestesses of the Goddess in Mesopotamia instructed women in all of the Women’s Mysteries, especially those connected with the flow of the menses and the cycles of Luna.
It was these ancestral traditions that were suppressed by every male-dominated religion since the parochial Sumerians. This is because nothing scares a chauvinist type religionist more than the suggestion of the female God and the very real and unlimited power which is expressed by liberated Women who are conversant with the sacred Women’s Mysteries; which enables modern women to reclaim genuine equality and power and honor the goddess within and without.
To some, the Yin principle represents a challenge and a threat to the fire of their patriarchal spirituality. Jahi is the Yin, as Jahi is all women, the creator of serpents and everything to do with women’s spirituality.
Therefore according to these men, Jahi and all women are the worst of the worst, the force that would extinguish the Yang if it were not subordinated, subdued and suppressed. The lecherous and tempting whore archetype, the Jezebel, the Lilith-she-demoness ; while Ahriman became the feared parochial Devil.
Unlike Lilith in the edited Bible though, Jahi was included and assigned a new minor role in Zoroastrian beliefs, where even to this day and in this Age, the Goddess is called The Whore. Jahi is given dominion over all illicit sex, (sex only became illicit, shameful and evil after patriarchal meddling); or any sexual act which is seen as being polluting. Needless to say, as sexual freedom and responsibility was highly valued in pre-patriarchal times all over the world and sex was seen as a sacred gift from the Divine – as a natural way of celebrating the sacredness of all life; the early patriarchs wanted to crush this spirit of freedom and love and replace it with fear-driven beliefs and threats of punishments for ‘sins’.
All over the world, the way of the Goddess gave way to patriarchal dualism, which teaches that women are not merely unequal to men but also that the Yin is somehow evil.
At the risk of repeating myself, let’s just mention that the real Yin does not belong on any patriarchal chessboard, and that the devil of the Abrahamanic traditions has nothing to do with Yin energies, which are of water and earth, of the feminine, the passive and receptive; the Moon; and that the Yin in Nature works together with the Yang, or air and fire, of the masculine, the active and giving; the Sun, to create all cycles of existence.
Life could not continue on the basis that the Yin is ‘opposed’ to the Yang, for if they were in perpetual combat as posited, then mutual destruction would be the end result. Is constant stress overload and eventual mutual destruction what most people then wish for?
In my humble opinion as a Pagan, If the evil devil is as powerful as the good god; and there is no room for a woman, then this is in essence a poor indictment of these antiquated teachings.
The Goddess Jahi of Ten Thousand Names does not condemn or punish people in some eternal spiritual hell of reincarnation in slavery, rather, the Goddess carries on operating just as SHE always has despite any temporary disturbances in the natural order of things; and welcomes all back to the womb for another cycle of rebirth, life and death, just as it always has been ~ regardless of religion.
Unfortunately, Jahi in today’s world is still viewed by the more conservative elements of the spiritual community as a whore and the reason for the downfall of men; yet with the advent of the dawning of the new Age of the Daughter, many are reclaiming back the Truth.
Many women and men are freeing themselves from mental slavery, and choosing to honor their distant Pagan ancestors‘ traditions according to the times we live in. Many choose to incorporate harmonious teachings from other traditions in to their own ways. Why not? Who rules that we cannot do as Spirit guides, and do as we will without harming others?
Many women are asserting their will, and rejecting certain distortions of Truth in favor of the realization that we are all divine. No, silly, we are not trying to be better than, or higher than the Creator. We cannot create planetary systems or galaxies at will! However we are reflections, or miniature copies of the Divine, and so we are just as the Divine. We are all children of the Goddess, yet how few realize this, or indeed act as if they are divine in themselves - that the Divine is within?
Jahi the sacred Hoar (High Priestess); the sacred and Divine Feminine of Infinite Names, is within of everyone and the destiny of women is to run society with love and according to universal principles of equality, compassion, understanding and tolerance of all religious and spiritual beliefs. Like a family where we are all related, instead of like the politically-charged warzone of hate, bigotry and intolerance it has become under the aegis of the patriarchy.
Propagandists will tell us that the Goddess is just a female version of the devil; that if women take the apples of wisdom from the ancestral Goddess of humankind and take back the Power, then we will all be condemned to hellfire.
Jahi teaches us to believe not in these things, the devil and his hell. For the Divine never condemns, but loves instead. Fear is weakness, while Love is Strength, didn’t you know? Either one is strong, or evil. One cannot be both
After all, why do anything spiritual which makes you unhappy? No-one has the right to take away what is in the heart of another. Love is the Key.
Love takes a myriad of forms, and is by no means restricted to physical love.
Often, Pagan Goddess folk are accused of promoting unsafe sex and being loose with our morality. This comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of spiritual love-making, which begins within the heart or soul of a person wishing to share this love with another. In fact, the art of lovemaking is something that applies to all facets of life - otherwise, what’s the real value in living a life at all?
The appreciation of sacred arts such as belly dancing contradicts the notion that women must be ashamed of their bodies. Who justifies the idea that women must be ashamed of their own bodies? Men who deny the power of woman in bed? .Whatever
Love is, or can be, everything. Love is everything, actually, and that’s why many people have always spontaneously venerated the Goddess, and respected women. No woman should be subjected to leering gazes from unbalanced men who only wish to use and take advantage of her body and ignore the goddess within, and everyone has the right to dress in traditional clothing.
Having said this, though, to Pagan Goddess devotees, lovemaking with a beloved partner is pleasure enjoyed responsibly and without feelings of shame, regret or guilt. How can one ever re-enact the Hieros Gamos and thereby fertilize the entire realm with all things good if one is chained by harmful and intrusive fear-based thoughts?
The Goddess can be approached by any woman at any time, for assistance with vital matters pertaining to health, especially concerning the menses and any sexual issues.
Jahi, the female Jah, or God, protects Her daughters against sexual abuse – actually Ahriman, the beloved consort of the Goddess, is very intolerant of sexual abuse. This, all rapists and abusers do find out at some time or another.
The tale of Jahi and Ahriman is paralleled in early Jewish mythology, which is a logical progression seeing as all Jewish people were once Persian and incorporated much of Zoroastrianism into the new belief system. Ahriman became Asmodeus, the husband of Lilith, the Prince of the Avengers of Evil.
To qualify the term 'evil' is very difficult, as the subjective responses to such a Evil of course relating to rape, abuse and so on – where black magic is used to harm another for self-gain or envy, malicious envy and hatred leading to acts of violence against another for the benefit of the evil-doer at the expense of others.. Evil as a concept goes far beyond dualism and subjective notions of what comprises either good or evil in the world according to Religious definitions thereof. In reasonable terms, evil acts are those which emanate from within of a severely unbalanced person. For example, the rape of children and women by men. Evil can be said to be the outer manifestation, or the product of the radical imbalance within which comes from ignoring or suppressing the spiritual power of womankind, the Goddess.
To heal the world, we must see ourselves as the world, and begin the healing process deep within.
No one Christian, Muslim or Jew can be blamed for certain specific discriminatory texts written in to the Holy Books of these Religions in medieval times. Love urges the new generations to revise the blatantly offending discriminatory texts within of these Books, and to remove any religious hate speech within them, specifically mentioning any other Religions, Women and Witches and Pagans, and then we can all advance like grown-ups towards a better and happier future for all.
Being free from restrictions while doing harm to none, knowing oneself and living in tune with the elements and natural forces of Nature is the way of the Goddess. So many of us are in need of genuine sexual healing, to restore our inner strength and confidence in ourselves and others. Jahi is always here to help us in this process if we choose to call upon the gracious and ever forgiving Goddess of Love.
Jahi is Love! Hail the Great Mother of All!
