I am one of those people who just loves the number 13. Both my partner and I were born on the 13th day of our respective months and feel it's good luck. I seek the number out for signs and messages. But the number does make some folks uneasy. Thirteen is associated with the Death card in the Tarot. This card represents transformation: letting go of past ideas and moving into the future. A good way to tap into that energy and overcome your fears is to connect 13 to other mysteries using a little math and meditation. Pull the Death card and one or more of the following cards to use as an energetic guide on your altar:1 + 3 = 4: The Emperor asks, "What's your foundation?"3 andminus; 2 = 1: The High Priestess chants, "To enter the mystery, leave your fears behind."10 + 3 = 13: Wheel of Fortune and Empress sing, "Let creativity flow!"6 + 7 = 13: The Lovers and the Chariot whisper: "Let your body lead you."
Sometimes indoor potted plants need a boost. There are a few natural ways to feed them that also have a magical side. As you fertilize your plants in the following ways, visualize your magical intention growing along with their leaves and blooms.Coffee grinds: Sparingly sprinkle used coffee grinds (never fresh) onto the soil around the base of the plant. Coffee grinds are acidic and add phosphorus to the soil. Magically, coffee beans are associated with stamina.Eggshells: Save some eggshells and grind them in a coffee grinder. This powder will provide your plant with calcium. Add some to the soil when potting, or sprinkle on the surface after planting. Magically speaking, eggshells are associated with protection.Banana peels: Soak a banana peel in water for about five hours or until the water turns brown. Remove the peel and water your plants to provide potassium. Bananas are associated with fertility.Be sure to research your plants before trying these techniques to make sure they are compatible.
Tonight begins Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Part of this holiday is about wishing for a sweet new year while reflecting on the previous one. Begin by setting up a sacred space with foods of abundance and renewal. Apples and honey are traditionally used at this time. Then light a candle to represent the new year's light and fresh beginnings. In a quiet moment, meditate on your intentions for the coming year. Write these intentions on a piece of paper, focusing on personal growth and spiritual aspirations.Place the paper under a small bowl of honey and apple slices. As you dip each apple slice in the honey, envision your intentions sweetening your life. Then safely burn the paper in a fireproof dish, releasing your intentions into the universe. Share some honeyed apple slices with loved ones, celebrating the sweetness of the new year and the unity of your intentions.
For this abundance spell, you will need the following supplies:Sharpies or glass pensA green glass-encased candleA sprinkle of dried alfalfa or peppermint (or both)Cash in the highest denomination you can affordA single pennyUse the Sharpies or glass pens to draw on the candle's glass. Write words like "abundance," "receive," or "gratitude" on your candle. Draw dollar signs or sigils that connect you with a feeling of abundance. Sprinkle a pinch of the herbs on the top of the candle's wax. Sign your name across the money and place it under the candle along with the penny. Light the candle and let it burn to completion. This may take several days. Do not leave it lit while unattended. If necessary, snuff it out and light it again later. Once the candle is done burning, spend the cash at a local small business and carry the penny with you as a talisman of abundance.
On this dark moon, meditate with a black tourmaline to relax your body and soothe your mind. First, cleanse the stone by bathing it in sage smoke, bright sunlight, or running water for a minute or two. Then sit somewhere comfortable and relaxing where you won't be disturbed. Sit with your spine straight in a gentle way, whether you're seated on a chair, a couch, or the floor. Hold the tourmaline in your right hand and close your eyes. Take three long, deep breaths and then allow your breathing to be natural, but keep your awareness on it so that you know when you are breathing in and when you are breathing out. Feel the calm and quiet serenity of the tourmaline. Notice how it is like a perfect sponge for all frenetic energy and bodily tension as well as excessive worry and thought. Continue to relax as you feel the crystal neutralize these things and drawing them out of your body and mind.
