Today is the International Day of Peace, established by the United Nations in 1981. It is also a new moon/solar eclipse. This is a transformational time for a new beginning. It is a day to promote peace throughout the world, but more importantly a time to consciously cultivate peace within yourself. The new moon is like a doorway, a chance to begin again and walk into the new energy with fresh ideas about how to achieve peace. Obtain a small candle, white if possible, but any color that you have on hand will work. Place the candle in a holder where it can safely burn until it goes out on its own. Say this blessing as you light the candle to send out a wish for inner peace as well as wishes for a more peaceful world:As I light this candle flame, I wish for peace within and I wish for the world the same.
A few days remain in Virgo season. The added Saturnian energy of Saturday makes today a great day for to plan for sacred transition. Virgo is known for organized, detail-oriented hard work. Saturn is renowned for providing structure, clear timelines, discipline, and patience. What loose ends need to be tied up before the season changes? What vestiges of summer need to be cleaned and put away? What preparation is needed for the coming autumn?Wash your hands with soap and water, then dry them. Intone:I'm ready to begin, bringing sacred transition. Make a list of several small tasks you need to complete. Start with the smallest. When it is done, make a checkmark next to it, feeling a sense of accomplishment. Then move on to the next task. When you are done working for the day, wash your hands again. Intone:I'm finished. Relatively quickly, you have transitioned your house and property from summer to autumn.
Daily life can be stressful, and there often needs to be a reset period where we are able to come back to a point of balance. Water can be a viable medium to facilitate bringing our emotions and bodies into harmony. Fridays align with Venus and the element of water, so this is the perfect opportunity to work on balance. Draw yourself a ritual bath. (This spell can also be done in the shower with a shower melt instead of a bath bomb.) Get the temperature of the water to where you can fully submerge yourself. Add your favorite bath bomb or oil to the water. Float in the water and allow all the stress you are under to melt away. Find a rhythm with your breathing and just be. Feel your emotions even out as the breath in your body does the same. Say aloud:Venus, allow me release. Please help me find peace. Remain in the water until you feel more balanced and at peace. Then drain the tub, removing the turbulence from your system.
An herbal infusion is a liquid in which herbs have steeped for a period of time. Infusions have many uses in the magical sanctum: they can be part of spellcasting, used to clean or consecrate items, or even consumed as a tea, whether to affect one's frame of mind or just to taste good. It's easy to make your own infusions, and by doing so, you'll always know they're fresh, safe, and ready to use.For a simple herbal infusion, you'll need a cup of uncontaminated/filtered water, two clean lidded pint jars, a small strainer, and 1 tablespoon crushed dried herbs or 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs.Add the herbs to the jar, followed by a cup of boiling water. Immediately screw on the lid, then let the herbs infuse for 4 to 8 hours. Strain into a second clean jar, add the lid, and label with date and herb. Discard the used herbs. Store in the fridge and use within 2 to 5 days.
With the fall equinox close at hand, the theme of balance is in the universe. Light and dark are moving toward equality. The next several days are the perfect time to evaluate the balance in your own life.Open yourself to the balance theme with this quick meditative working in tree pose. If you are unfamiliar, a quick "tree pose" internet search will bring up images for this yoga pose, which is all about a strong base, stability, and balance. The leg that remains on the ground is your base. Feel the strength in your base as you shift your weight to bear down solely on it. Tell yourself:This is my base. Firm, strong, stable. When you feel that your base is strong and steady, slowly lift your other leg and place your foot into a comfortable position against your base leg. Take your time and keep your movements completely under control. Go slow enough that you do not tip or shake, but instead feel the strength in your base leg grow as it accepts the changes and compensates for the movements in your other leg. Continue to tell yourself:My base is strong and stable. Feel as you align into balance and hold your pose. How does this feel to you? How can you apply a strong, steady base to your life?
