Which came first ~ the Serpent or the Egg?

In the ancient of days, before the Beginning, the Goddess was.

Eurynome, the Great Mother, stirred from the depths of the Void and each movement of Her body created a harmonic resonance of  Life.

From out of Herself, the First Darkness, The Goddess divided Herself into Light and Darkness, separating the waters from the heavenly skies above.

As the first lights of being swirled around in spirals, multiplying and entwining with each other in myriad ways, the Goddess rose gracefully from the womb of the ocean and spontaneously began to dance to the rhythm of the waves, stirring the first breeze upon the primal atmosphere.

Dancing the sacred Dance, Eurynome started slowly, grinding Her hips and swaying as an entranced Cobra, moving sinuously and effortlessly  to the primeval rhythms as the Wind was born from Her motions.

Rising higher and higher, the wind raised into a Spiral and Eurynome, having inspiration, created a giant Serpent from out of the currents which She named Ophion. Carried away by the Dance, Eurynome and Her new dancing partner danced entwined together until the lights went out over the horizon.

Ophion coiled around the Great Goddess, and in the passion of the dance, new life was conceived.

The next morning, after the last trills of lovemaking had faded into the waters one day to reappear again;  Eurynome rose into the sky above and transforming through Her will, became a beautiful white Dove.

Brooding silently over the living waters of Her nest, Eurynome waited until the time was right until She gave birth, to a Cosmic Egg.

Calling to Ophion, Her consort, Eurynome bade the Great Serpent to coil around the Universal Egg until the time arrived at long last, for it to hatch.

And from the Egg emerged all Life ~ all of creation flowed forth as if by Magick!

 

The planets, stars and spiraling galaxies were joined by all of the countless teeming life forms which together make up the Natural Universe ~ every living thing, every vibrant being , manifesting in infinite forms and myriad Names; children all of the Primordial Goddess and Her Ophion.
