Dancing to either imitate the motions of the Serpent, or honour the Serpent, is not surprisingly , an ancient tradition which still survives today in spite of official embarrassment and denial of cultural roots worldwide.

Africa has a rich tradition of Serpent veneration, and this is the sacred Domba, or Python dance, performed as part of a Fertility ritual by the Venda people in Southern Africa. The undulating motion of the dance signifies the life force which unites all the women with the abundance and fertility of Mother Nature.

The Feathered dances still performed in ritual and on special occasions by people of Zululand and New Guinea, were performed by the distant ancestors in honour of the Feathered Serpent, the Lord of Light. known in various cultures as Quetzalcoatl, Ecocotl, and Enki.

Bellydancing has its distant origins in Fertility rites and Women's Mysteries performed in honour of the Goddess. In Greece, the Dance was for Aphrodite, in Arabia, for Goddess Allat, and in India for Kali. The sacred Dance, or Raksat mimics the natural motions of the Serpent and is associated with childbirth and fertility.

Dance on!

It liberates and transports the dancer effortlessly to an oasis of peace and yet, interconnectedness with oneself and everything in Nature.

I loved this dearest!  I love to dance although with some mild mobility issues, I can't move as I used to when younger.  Still, I love the place it takes us to when we got lost in that sacred dance......wonderful post dear heart!

The Dancing part is great, but anyone can get lost in the heavenly divine music, dear sister Boudicca:)

Glad you enjoyed it! We become One!
