All of These Dead Heroes 

 

The world is still  the same (or worse) despite 

All of these dead heroes

And Walter Cronkite tears

And granite etched in zeroes

 

These monuments in the midst of business as usual

 No longer move me to Pride and Hope 

It's just another hit of the  same old shit 

The same old television dope

Just another hit of video dope

Praise the dead heroes

The world is in turmoil
nations are afloat in stormy seas
people are worried and not at ease
it seems that all is aboil

Still there are some that toil
acting as gleaming beacons
guiding those ships to solid soil
fighting the war without weapons

Praise the dead heroes
they fought valiently for us
fighting to the last to protect
HOPE

I'm not as pessimistic as this poem sounds, just ready to dispense with business as usual so that these heroes can be honored in a better world. HOPE is the one thing no one can live without. Thanks for the thoughts in your poem and for taking the time to share them.  marK
