"There is a story that in very far-off days the zodiac was reckoned to consist, not of twelve signs of 30 degrees each, but of ten signs of thirty-six degrees each; the sign Libra being omitted, and the signs Virgo and Scorpio being as one.
This, says an obscure occult legend,
referred to the time when the human race was androgynous, having both sexes in one.
But when the separation into female and male took place,it was signified by altering the signs of the Great Wheel of Life.
Virgo, the female, was separated from Scorpio, the male; and between them was placed Libra, the sign of marriage."

This legend also correlates with the 13 sign zodiac, in which all the signs are not uniform at 30 degrees apiece in a logically drawn symmetry. In this system, which relates to the zodiac as it really is rather than how it is interpreted by us here on earth for the sake of uniformity, all the signs are of different sizes, the smallest being Scorpio, which if I remember runs from November 23rd to November 29th, while Virgo is the largest sign, beginning Sept 16th til 31st October.
But I also read that the signs Scorpio and Sagittarius were once considered one single sign because of the apparent overlap between them in the sky, which later developed into this 13th sign between the two of them known as Ophuichus, the Serpent Bearer, the sign of the healer and sage, which runs between November 29th and 18th December.
I feel we may all resonate with different systems or a combination. I know astrology is never as simple as it seems because not all of us agree on which system to use in the first place! :3
Yes Molly, it's what works for the individual really. I know that the name for scorpio in ancient Sumer was Gir-Tab and it is one of the original zodiacal signs. But there again as a little scorpion myself , i,m naturally a tad biased towards my own view. The thriteenth sign you refer to , is it the spider?
Don't know where the rest of the post went, so here's a link. :-)
Thanks! I actually posted the response above and then deleted it and reposted something about Ophiuchus hoping that you would be able to point me in the right direction- must be the old ghosts in the machine again?. Thanks so much xox
I mentioned that the ancient Sumerians linked both planets and Deities in their Astrological calendar which was divided in twelve. The constellation of Scorpio was called Gir-Tab while Virgo was called Ab.Sin.
Which reminds me, I've run out and will have to go and get some of my favourite Green Faery soon! lol. Thanks again and BB
