One Small Token

If angels wings are made from dreams

Let heart take soul to soaring

To meet this dream a spirit will wake

The soul and heart each morning

That which is near and yet so far away

Our hearts will seem to reckon

The friend that stays both day and night

Stands where the light will beckon

In this small and secret passage

From one world to the next

We have at our advantage 

Those words from nature's text

"What light! Over the horizon breaks...

It is the Sun!  And morning is her name..."

Announcing that same radiance 

Which lends such hallowed fame

If in our quiet wanderings

Where forgotten things we seek

Let us then discover 

Which is humble and is meek

How nature puts word into songs

That small birds sing with measure

This lyric that my heart does long for

Those these things that I will treasure

Inside us there's a garden

To each we must attend

Cutting out the weeds and such

Whose beauty might offend
