"For hundreds of thousands of years the Aurochs  was a part of European nature. Since the death of the last aurochs in 1627 in the Jaktorow game preserve in Poland, it seemed that Europe has lost this key species forever. The history is about to change, though. European Wildlifeorganization in cooperation with the Dutch Taurus Foundation is preparing a project aiming to return the Aurochs to the mountains of Central Europe.

“In mountainous areas every day a number of endangered species of butterflies and birds living in open landscapes become extinct. But those particular species can be saved by introducing big grazing animals including the aurochs because it is their grazing that helps to maintain open landscapes,” says Dalibor Dostal, the director of European Wildlife conservation organization.

The project is part of a program of the European Centre of Biodiversity whose aim is to protect endangered species and to reintroduce the ones that have become extinct in many places – European bisons, wild cats or wild bees. And the aurochs, of course.

At present, the Dutch Taurus Foundation is preparing two herds that will form the base for semi-wild breeding herds of aurochs in the mountains of the Czech Republic. The aurochs are brought back by cross-breeding the most suitable primitive breeds of cattle from the whole of Europe within the Tauros Programme."

Only just checked in today for a fleeting moment as things are busy busy as per usual. Not that there's any complaining, because that never helps anyway:)
Thanks so much for asking, I had been sick with the flu for the first time in around three years and it eventually caught up with me. I have never felt such an enegy drain and just a general feeling of lethargy and always crabbed as hell and snapping at everybody all the while lol
Well you will always have a friend in me because that is basically what I am, a green man person and if you put me all on my lonesome deep in a forest somewhere it would be hard to separate me from it. I get so angry and it is often difficult to keep my emotions in balance when faced with the continuous onslaught against trees and Nature in general.
One feels helpless and all ones words impotent sometimes when you see that instead of hearing the voices of reason, most people just seem to carry on trashing the eco-system and polluting the planet, and that the ethos of destruction , warfare and 'might is right' continues on .
It's difficult to stay motivated considering all the negatives which face eco-warriors and animal activists every day.
Yet my solution is to know that every little effort counts, and counts far more than harmful acts. Maybe we will eventually restore the essential balance again in time.
I also have to get onto my vege garden- some-time. It must be so rewarding to work with the little ones. With all the harmful programming coming their way, they can thank their lucky stars they have someone like you to help them at this young age. Strength and many blessings to you and yours, Elspeth
