I don't know how I can explain it, but ever since I was a child I have had a, for a lack of a better word, connection to the element of fire. I seem to find a calming sense within the flickering flames and at times I can make out images. I have done a little research on flame visions and this is something that I need to look into more.
When I was in Boy Scouts, I was always the one who could get the fires going and keep them lit. My friend used to call me "Hestia" after the Greek Goddess of the Hearth since I was always keeping the fires going. But for me it was soothing. I could find some comfort in sitting near the fire, feeling the heat and telling stories around the flames. As I got older, those feelings never changed.
Tonight as I sat near the fire, I listened to some music and just watched the flames. I felt calm once again, and just relaxed. Once the fires died down, I felt renewed. It felt as if something was burned away from me and I could go on and start over with a new beginning.
Has anyone else felt this way with an element?

Yes, I have felt this with fire too. In Chinese astrology you are assigned a main sign or animal that has a combination of altogether five elements. It may be worth looking which yours are. Sometimes I am aware of 'interior' elements or alignment to them. The fire was one I could appreciate all too little and reminds me of the song by Bob Marley, Redemption Song, Do you remember when we used to sit in a government hall in Brooklyn? xxxx would make the fire lite and all the good people we met.. I get the words jumbled up.. but I think you understand. I can feel it when I read your words. Staring into the flames, finding calm, and natural rootedness, and yes, when the fire goes out, old feelings have smoldered and make place for new growth on a very soft and Clean foundation of greyish ash.
I am a double aquarian and have a lot of air in my sunsign. In chinese astrology I am also all wood! ;) lol
I also feel a connection to water, and a lack of metal.
Earth is a sign I feel very comforting to when I am with people of an earth sunsign. They ground me. And provide the physicality that is so missing in an aquarian or double aquarian or other air signs life. ;)
Namaste <3
astara yaakun ;)
blessed be Scott!
I think people underestimate and undervalue the fire element. They notice the earth and water elements especially, but probably because fire energy seems so sporadic and ethereal as well as dangerous, it never seems to have the same connotations to the principles of healing or spiritual power, except for the obvious sun in the sky. I fully understand where you're coming from with fire tending and flame watching/meditating. I was always the same at camps. I love it! You watch it and it is like watching a living entity, a spirit which is crackling away and all consuming, transforming.
I don't know how much bearing astrological signs have on this issue, but the elements I've appreciated more over my lifetime are mainly water, air, and earth, and more so in the past when I hadn't come into my own 'fire energy' if that makes any sense. I was more operating from my empathic self, which was my watery side as a child.
They're all different energies so I honestly don't have any favorites now, and have always felt very connected to all of them but the most 'spiritual' for me was always air. I loved to look into the sky and feel a sense of infinity and boundlessness, watch the clouds, the stars, and feel connected to everything around me through the spirit of the air. I would pick up images from the wind from it's travels and feel a part of that eternal journey. For me that felt closer to my own spirit. I remember as a child I loved the sea, but I also loved spending time alone exploring moorland and heath on the borders of Scotland, where it is always windy. People used to tire of all the wind but I loved it, it's almost like it puts you into a different state of consciousness or awareness, like when you put a shell to your ear and listen to the sea, and suddenly you're part of something much bigger than yourself, part of the same spirit of the wind connected to everything it touches. They have a saying in this part of the world which is to let the wind 'blow the cobwebs off', which means to dust off the old you and feel invigorated by the new, and that is what air and wind energy does for me.
That feels really lovely, Molly, especially me being a double-air sign, and I can really see myself being out there, wind swept on a dark night, near a beach on rare occassions I went down to the coast when I was in England, and just feeling wild, and really free, in a kind of way that the wind holds its only magic and secret. I feel there is nothing more powerful than the wind taking your breathe away, when as a child, you lean far out of the window of a car, when you are on a motorway or going through amazing landscapes to be one with nature, as if you are flying. It is like the breathe of life to me, of envigorating, enlivening, and perhaps that is what it was doing to your firey nature, that was otherwise perhaps too low for your own nature, your own likedness.
On occasion, I have had a strong lack of metal, and the desire to make up for it a little, similar to eating very little salt all my life and no fish.
For those who wish to add a little fire into their lives, how about, other than enjoying a couple of chilli meals, to incorporate a fire agate into their lives? Or even a sunstone~ this too has a kind of shimmer in it unique to the stone that does relate to the sun deeply, I feel, and in this sense, also to fire! It is also called fire by some!
I can remember when I was younger, there was a terrible building fire in my town. An apartment building caught on fire one night and the whole town came out to watch it. The building was located in the downtown area, and I sat across the street from the fire with my mom watching the blaze. As I watched, I thought I saw the flames come out of the top of the building and take the form of a dragon. I thought this was just the flames coming out, but now I think it was a manifestation of a fire spirit.
Wow! Beautiful Scott! <3
Thank you. I saw the flames take the shape of the dragon, but as I said, I thought my mind had created it. Occasionally, in a huge fire, I can see it again. I need to look more into it to see what that means. I don't see the dragon often, only in a huge fire and if I happen to be looking in the right place.
