Butterfly Moon

This NEW MOON on MAY 20-21  (May 20 at 7:47pm EDT, May 21 at 12:47am GMD)  is an annular eclipse at the opening edge of GEMINI,  just across the cusp from Taurus.  If we did our consciousness work during the last Moon cycle, there is a potential butterfly effect during this one, with eclipses on New and Full Moons. Eclipses allow a new emergence, an iridescent fluttering in the reflection of mundane reality that emerges from the cocoon of quantum soup we live in.  Physicists say, “Hidden behind the discrete and independent objects of the sense world is an entangled realm in which the simple notions of identity and locality no longer apply” [Greenstein and Zajonc in “The Quantum Challenge”].  “Entangled” is a likely word for our experience of this New Moon cycle, with the eclipsed Sun challenged most closely by NEPTUNE, at its peak emersion sign, Pisces. Shape-shifter CHIRON is still alongside Neptune, continuing to redesign reality from that quantum cocoon. What is your dream?  MARS FORWARD, VENUS RETROGRADE  Chiron is opposition MARS inviting forth the spiritual warrior, with knee bent to the Virgo Goddess. During the extended Mars retrograde from late January into mid-April, we were in training to refine our response to rapidly changing circumstances, listening to our bodies and setting/getting priorities straight.  Now Mars is moving forward. We can no longer “do” what we’ve been doing or at least how we’ve been doing it. For one thing, our bodies won’t hold up to the old patterning. There is a “melt-down” or loosening of the matrix of the old, disintegrating grid that invites us to tune in and tune up our harmonics.  Going beyond the mental constructs that shape our experience, we are increasingly led by our hearts and souls that so deeply desire to be freed from the shackles of mass consciousness and the stagnant norm of social hypnosis. “But you won’t find me picking through my old emotional trash. I choose the new frontiers of my expanding consciousness and my new potentials,” writes Geoffrey Hoppe of the Crimson Circle network, something I came across lately following the yellow brick web trail. (All sorts of interesting messages pop us in web synchronicity, don’t they?)  VENUS is newly RETROGRADE, as of May 15. The Goddess invites us within to reconnect with our inner beauty, to re-evaluate and fine tune our emotional bodies. Venus is about the aesthetics of life. Where is the beauty in your life? We will see Venus drop quickly in the sky heading back toward the Sun. The next, partially eclipsed Full Moon is on June 4. The very next day, Venus crosses the face of the Sun in glorious fashion, the Goddess haloed by the Sun. If you are tuning in with full emotional resonance, you can spread your butterfly wings in higher harmony and delight wherever this is happening in your chart.  SATURN is very supportive of Venus, in an exact trine that increases understanding and sharing between people, brings out the love vibe in relationships, and a heart-felt desire for a win-win result. All this as long as your heart is in the right place!  Venus retrograde cycles repeat every 8 years. It might be worth looking back to May-June 2004, 1996, 1988, 1980, 1972, etc. etc. to see how you have been emotionally experiencing this Gemini-flavored Venusian alchemy over the years. It’s one of the places that Venus is communing with you to raise your level of satisfaction and emotional enrichment over your life. The 1988 date is particularly interesting, because Jupiter was also in Taurus that year, as it is now. Venus rules Taurus, so Jupiter is listening to Venus to improve our lives and bring opportunities that resonate with our enhanced values.  JUPITER is still in TAURUS for another few weeks. Jupiter will move into Gemini on June 11, before the next New Moon. All kinds of new balls come into play. Meanwhile let’s get down and dirty in the dirt while Jupiter is currently plugged into a very close conjunction with Ceres, Black Moon Lilith, and Mercury. This is a savory mouthful of planets that all agree on whatever it takes to produce a bountiful harvest in the long run. This shall prevail. If there is some rock in your river blocking the flow, you may encounter it in order to find a way around it—or through it.  This stellium (a multiple conjunction) in Taurus maintains a waning EARTH GRAND TRINE with Mars in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn as this Moon cycle plays out, a productive combination that experientially demonstrates the level of transformation in progress. Venus calls us in to make sure this is what we feel good about. There is no doubt that circumstances are changing for each of us.  BLACK MOON LILITH  Wait a minute. Let me re-evaluate that statement in the light of a fascinating CD I just listened to, a talk by Rabbi Gershon Winkler entitled, “Lilith and the Demonization of Doubt.” This is another one of those things that popped up on the yellow brick road of the Internet. [See www.walkingstick.org, “dedicated to the restoration and preservation of aboriginal Jewish spirituality, flavoring its programs with ancient and early medieval Hebraic shamanism and mystery wisdom aimed at guiding our life walk with wisdom to ‘lean on’.” Really! What a find under the Chiron-Neptune conjunction.]  With his delightful, irreverent sense of humor, Winkler engages us to allow space for doubt, uncertainty and the unpredictability inherent in life. If we are so terrified of the unknown, of uncertainty, we will see doubt as “a vile thing to avoid at all costs. You will draw Lilith in the demonic form because she is the one who challenges that part of you. Just like she challenged the first man, in his clinging to certainty: ‘I’m certain I’m supposed to be on top! I’m the man, don’t you know, I read it!’”  What Lilith is for you is determined by your actions in life. We need to face “our own fear of engaging, embracing uncertainty, of engaging, embracing what is within us that is unfinished, unperfect, not so good all the time. Once we push through that…then Lilith no longer becomes the demon, she becomes the messiah. She lifts us up. She gives us the power….Lilith is victory, externalized power, outward power, pushing through the veil of things that stand in your way, through the SaTan [Hebrew word for obstruction], through the obstacles, saying to the cherubim who are waving their flaming swords, ‘That’s really cute and you know, I’m going through, so out of my way.’ That’s Lilith.”  Needless to say for those that know my work, I loved this talk and moved me through some of my own doubts about my understanding of Lilith (for who can KNOW Lilith?) that came up during the 5-hour workshop I gave on Black Moon Lilith in Belgrade in March.  This theme of doubt has a strong effect on relationships, since we often see in the other person only what we want to see, how we want them to be, so we can “be sure.” Yet if we can step back, give space to the other person and to the relationship itself, we can see another person as they are becoming in their unfolding. “Give the other person the benefit of the doubt,” Winkler reminds us. “Allow doubt to flourish, because nothing in this world is certain....Love is embracing the unknown, embracing the uncertainty.” Embracing the mystery.  “The Holy Blessed One is both concealed and revealed…. If you are always certain, there is no room for anything to come into your life. If you leave room for Lilith then there are a lot of gifts that will come your way.”  BUTTER FLIES  This New Moon eclipse and Venus retrograde in Gemini invite us to look at life from a variety of perspectives, especially some we might never have entertained before. Just for fun. Out of curiosity. Just to see what might be revealed from the paradoxes in life. In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is a metaphoric name for the “sensitive dependence on initial conditions,” such that a tiny change at one place in a non-linear system can result in large differences later on.
