Authentic

We paint a picture,
Of a thousand faces,
A perfect portrait,
Of wonderful places.

We choose our best bits,
Disregard the rest,
We hide our faults,
To always look our best.

They mustn't see the cracks,
The imperfect view,
They like the portrait,
Not the broken you.

Give them the wonder,
Keep up the show,
Bury your true self,
They will never know.

But the ultimate truth is,
They will in the end,
See the one on the inside,
Your dark little friend.

It will peek through the embers,
Keep pushing up through,
It shouts to be recognised,
The authentically you.

Its ok not to be perfect,
Let go of the mask,
Everyone has troubles,
Broken futures or past.

Imperfect is beautiful,
In a dark, vulnerable way,
Dont be afraid to release it,
Hold you hands up and say:

I make mistakes, I fuck up,
Im lost most of the time,
But I keep going regardless,
I own it, its mine!!!!
