This is great, a great post. I love what you said as well Elspeth. I have spent so much time in the still and quiet mountains that living in town has been a difficult adjustment for me. Hearing traffic and noise...even the good sounds, like children playing or my neighbors who like to play guitar and sing songs. They are from Mexico and sing traditional folk songs out on their porch some nights during the summer, it's lovely.

Not all the sounds are lovely though. People fighting, screaming at their kids, the guy down they street whose dog escapes like three times a week and he walks the neighborhood yelling in a tone I can only imagine makes the dog want to run further...
