8 of Swords (Why are YOU so hard on YOU?)

Remorse...guilt... embarrassment...feels awful doesn't it? Why is that? Is it because others remind us of our mistakes at any chance they can? Maybe...but not usually. These feelings do not originate from the heart...but...as the suit suggests...from the MIND !

When you are alone and you make a mistake...who is there to remind you to feel guilt from that mistake or even punish you? Right...no one but YOU! And when you put this idea in your head that you are now less than normal...worthless...embroidered with a scarlet letter on you chest...then others will pick up on these cues and unfortunately add to the misery. Don't believe me? Ever seen a school fight break out and all the other kids make a circle around the brawlers so the teachers can't see what's going on? It lengthens the fight so they can "enjoy the show". It's like that.

Royo's 8 of Swords is a visual example of a woman who has overly punished herself...with a majority of the "judgement" being on her head area. This is all mental punishment at first...but look how scratches from others have contributed in her chastisement! She has even let them do as they wish towards the end by giving them the chain leash around her neck...giving up her right to judge anymore. She is now trapped in a prison of the mind which has manifested itself to physical pain: ridicule from loved ones, family, friends, colleges, and now...even herself completely!

This card advises us to first look at our mistake with an open heart...did I really make that bad of a mistake? If so, can I learn something from it? Even if I am in the wrong...did I harm anyone in the process besides myself? If not...then judge not yourself. Show mercy. Live and learn. We are made imperfect and you will screw up many more times (just hopefully not the same ones over and over, right?)

And as for those arm-chair judges out there...tell them what I always do...
