Goddess Iris is the Goddess of the Rainbow, which heralds the ending of a rainstorm. Iris is called "The wondrous one", and is a messenger of the gods. Sister to the Harpies, Iris is also a spirit of justice similar to the Goddess Nemesis, tracking any wrongdoing back to the person who committed a crime and punishing those who constantly break the Laws of Nature.

Iris is herself a devotee of Hera and can travel to any realm. Like Anubis, Iris also acts as a psychopomp, personally guiding the spirits of people to Hades or the Underworld after their incarnations have again come to an end and that spirit needs a period of rest and rejuvenation before being born anew into a new body.

Iris carries the Caduceus or pagan Dragon staff, of healing and enlightenment.

The rainbow comprises of all of the colors that human beings can see with the naked eye ~ a lot less than the average trout or salmon, but that's another story altogether. The point is, that the rainbow's colors, though appearing to be separate at first glances do blend with each other and produce myriad hues even though the individual colors remain the same at their center. It's like the old idea of the nature goddesses and gods, that we are really one human race and have the same common origins, thus we are the same ~ yet everyone is an individual and has their own unique way of interacting with Deity.

Take the god of the West wind, Zephyros, for example. This is the god holding Flora in his arms while blowing the wind of the souls who have rest over Aphrodite in that famous painting...  Falsely accused of raping the Harpy Caeleno or Podarge, who gave birth to the immortal horses Balios and Xanthos as a result, Zephyr went to Iris and asked whether there was some way that his reputation could be de-besmirched in the eyes and hearts of the nature people of the Earth

Iris recommended that the truth be told, the whole truth and nothing less, so that those who know the difference between truth and the lies made by some men with bad intent could shine forth and exonerate him from his bad reputation as a rapist and molester.
