Mmmm, all my jasmine blossoms are gone now from my vine... the picture is so beautiful.. I wonder how long it might take for my jasmine to take over around our window once it gets planted outside... We have a hummingbird feeder right outside the bedroom window too, any added incentive for more hummingbirds at the window the better! Thanks for sharing :)
Jasmine is one of my very favourite creepers - from the yellow Jasmine, though it hasn't got much of a scent, it is a great screening hedge - to the Arabian jasmine, a very early flowering , highly-scented creeper, they all lend colour, fragrance and the vigour of twining, lush green foliage to any garden.
I also enjoy the Star Jasmine(Trachelospermum jasminoides) because it flowers practically the year round, unlike the other Jasmines which are at their best in early Spring. It is also used as a ground cover creeping plant which is ideal for topiary once well-established, and is ideal for training - on an obelisk or other suitable framework.Though fairly slow as compared to the true Jasmines, it is hardy, evergreen , non- invasive and can easily be managed.
Common Jasmine, (Jasminum officianalis) is the best for covering a wall or to grow onto a gazebo, for example. And, bees and butterflies love it! All good reasons to go out and get one for the garden or even a container .
I just love the delicate fragrance of the blooms on the evening breeze ...
and, for a sweet-scented car, just pluck a couple of blooms and leave them under the dashboard!
Star Jasmine
Speaking of flowers, we just have our snowdrops pushing up right now. Daffodils & crocuses coming soon. I was thinking we don't have enough winter flowers & was looking into the helliobore hybrids that are upward facing.. what they call winter roses. A variety called Ivory Prince, I'm going to keep an eye out to introduce.
My partner gray also bought be a beautiful jasmine vine growing on big loop/heart in full bloom, going to put a lattice along our bedroom window & plant it just outside, groom it to grow all around the window... I love the scent of jasmine at night. It's one of my favorite scents.
Debbie, you're more than welcome to start discussions on flower gardening too! Not just herbals. I love love love flowers & we grow many of them also, grow some for how they look, grow some for how they smell, grow some for the bees, butterflies & birds they attract, grow some for pollination, grow some for cutting & bringing indoors.. flowers are good medicine whether they biological medicinal properties or not! :)
This is such a nice page,, I only do flowers anymore,, though I feel so at home reading from this page ;} blessings always !
ShenShen, thanks for the reminder.. my partner did the fruit trees, but not the roses.. I'll send him back out this weekend! ;) I'll make sure I supervise from the hot tub!
Caging the catnip is a good idea... :) We have it in a hanging basket right now, but then they have to wait on us to provide some for them. If it were caged in the garden they could access what grows through without harming the core plant... so clever!
Ours go wild even for the regular mint, but not to the same extreme, they do like to roll in it and chew on it a little, but if it were catnip growing in that pot they can access they would eradicate every last leaf and root! lol.
Gypsy, sounds wonderful! My mother had a chocolate mint that was amazing, it smelt incredible, I never had it as tea though.
I should start growing more herbs specifically for tea, I drink a store bought blend I love daily, but growing my own, that would be nice... :)
Zeph, I love mints! and so do our cats. lol. I guess it's the same family as catnip and has similar if not as strong properties. We get the cats rolling around in the mint plants often. I've forgotten what varieties we'd planted.
It's amazing how many varieties of mints there are now!
It's raining here today. I was just sitting in the hot tub in the rain looking at the garden drinking it all in... :)
