Invocations are ways to call upon the God, the Goddess, or any other spirits or energies you may want present in your sacred space. For ritual work, invocations are usually made so that the energy called will be present to witness the ritual, which is usually done in their honor. For spellwork, invocations are made as a way to gain extra energy.
Below I have posted some basic invocations you can use. As always, it is highly recommended you write your own since they would be far more effective than any you find on the internet or in a book. But I feel it's easier to write your own if you have some examples to look at and use. Use them, see what works for you, then write your own is how I recommend you go about doing this. If you ever want to write an invocation for a specific God or Goddess (or that energy of the one God or Goddess), do a little bit of research on that particular God and put it into your invocation. That should make it a little bit easier. Have fun!
Invocation to Pan
By: Scott Cunningham
O great God Pan,
Beast and man,
Shepherd of goats and Lord of the Land,
I call you to attend my rites
On this most magickal of nights.
God of the wine,
God of the vine,
God of the fields and god of the kind,
Attend my circle with your love
And send your blessings from above.
Help me to heal;
Help me to feel;
Help me to bring forth love and weal.
Pan of the forests, Pan of the glade,
Be with me as my magick is made!
Invocation to Aphrodite
By: Autumn Rose
Aphrodite of golden hair,
With purest love and face so fair,
Goddess of longing, You who inspire,
And fan the flames of hot desire,
Lady of pleasure and lustful nights
--All acts of love are Your rites.
Queen of love and passions wild,
Smile upon Your loving child.
You who were foam-born of sea,
I ask Your blessings here on me.
And when this sacred rite is through,
Take my thanks and love with You.
Isis Invocation
By: Scott Cunningham
Isis of the Moon,
You who are all that ever was,
All that is,
And all that shall be:
Come, veiled Queen of Night!
Come as the scent of the sacred lotus
Charging my circle
With love and magick.
Do descend upon my circle,
I pray,
O Blessed Isis!
Invocation to Brigid
By: Autumn Rose
Brigid, O' firey arrow bright,
Bring Your blessed healing light,
Great protectress hear my plea;
Attend this circle here with me!
Blessed Brigid, who tends the flame,
And hears her children call Her name,
Goddess of music, poetry, and art,
Who brings inspiration and lifts the heart,
Three Brigids--Maiden, Mother, Crone,
Loving light of hearth and home,
Come and bless this sacred space,
By Your will and by Your grace,
And as we merry meet and merry part,
May I carry Your peace within my heart!
Invocation of the Goddess
By: Scott Cunningham
Crescent One of the starry skies,
Flowered One of the fertile plain,
Flowing One of the gentle rain;
Hear my chant 'midst the standing stones,
Open me to your mystic light;
Waken me to your silver tones,
Be with me in sacred rite!
Invocation of the Goddess 2
By: Scott Cunningham
Gracious Goddess,
You who are the Queen of the Gods,
The lamp of night,
The creator of all that is wild and free;
Mother of woman and man;
Lover of the Horned God and protectress of all the Wicca;
Descend, I pray,
With Your lunar ray of power
Upon my circle here!
Solitary Quarter Call
By: Autumn Rose
I welcome the East--bring your winds here,
Blow away doubt, confusion, and fear!
I welcome the South--let your fire glow,
Let desire and passion of life through me flow!
I welcome the West--let your healing rain,
Wash away negative feelings and pain!
I welcome the North--bring stability,
Strength and balance here to me!
The quarters are called and the circle's cast,
To raise the power and send it fast,
And when my sacred work is done,
Bless the magick that I've begun!
Invocation of the Elements
By: Scott Cunningham
Air, Fire, Water, Earth,
Elements of Astral birth,
I call you now; attend to me!In the circle, rightly cast,
Safe from psychic curse or blast,
I call you now; attend to me!
From cave and desert, sea and hill,
By wand, blade, cup, and pentacle,
I call you now; attend to me!
This is my will, so mote it be!
Invocation of the God
By: Scott Cunningham
Blazing God,
You Who are the King of the Gods
Lord of the Sun,
Master of all that is wild and free;
Father of woman and man,
Lover of the Moon Goddess and protector of all the Wicca:
Descend, I pray,
With Your Solar ray of power
Upon my circle here!
Call to the God
By: Scott Cunningham
Ancient God of the forest deeps,
Master of beast and Sun;
Here where the world is hushed and sleeps
Now that the day is done.
I call You in the ancient way
Here in my circle round,
Asking that You will hear me pray
And send Your Sun force down.
Invocation of the Horned God
By: Doreen Valiente
By the flame that burneth bright,
O' Horned One!
We call they name into the night,
O' Ancient One!
Thee we invoke, by the moon-led sea,
By the standing stone and the twisted tree.
Thee we invoke where gather thine own,
By the nameless shrine forgotten and lone.
Come where the round of the dance is trod,
Horn and hoof of the mighty god!
By moonlit meadow, on dusky hill,
When the haunted wood is hushed and still,
Come to the charm of the chanted prayer,
As the moon bewitches the midnight air.
Evoke thy powers, that potent bide
In shining stream and the secret tide.
In fiery flame by starlight pale,
In shadowy host that rides the gale, Of forests wild and woods enchanted.
Come! Come!
To the heart-beats drum!
Come to us who gather below
When the broad white moon is climbing slow
Through the stars to the heaven's height
We hear thy hoofs on the wind of night!
As black tree-branches shake and sigh,
By joy and terror we know thee nigh.
We speak the spell they power unlocks
At Soltice, Sabbat and equinox.
The Great Rite Invocation
By: Steward and Janet Farrar
Assist me to erect the ancient altar,
At which in days past all worshipped;
The great altar of all things.
For in times of old, woman was the altar.
Thus was the altar made and placed,
And the sacred place was the point
Within the center of the circle.
As we have of old been taught that the point within the
Center is the origin of all things.
Therefore should we adore it;
Therefore whom we adore we also invoke.
O Circle of Stars,
Whereof our Father is but the younger brother,
Marvel beyond imagination, soul of infinite space,
Before whom time is ashamed,
The mind bewildered, and the understanding dark,
Not unto thee may attain unless thine image be love.
Therefore by seed and root, and stem and bud,
And leaf and flower and fruit do we invoke thee.
O Queen of Space, O Jewel of Light,
Continuous Ones of the heavens;
Let it be ever thus
That men speak not of thee as One, but as None;
And let them not speak of thee at all,
Since thou art continuous.
For thou art the point within the Circle, which we adore;
The point of life, without which we would not be.
And in this way truly are erected the holy twin pillars,
In beauty and in strength were they erected
To the wonder and glory of all men.
Altar of mysteries manifold,
The sacred circle's secret point
Thus do I sign thee as of old
With kisses of my lips annnoint.
Open for me the secret way,
The pathway of intelligence,
Beyond the gates of night and day,
Beyond the bounds of time and sense.
Behold the mystery aright,
The five true points of fellowship,
Here where the Lance and Grail unite
And feet, and knees, and breast, and lip.
