Sister without rival,
most beautiful of all,
she looks like the star-goddess, rising
at the start of the good New Year.
Perfect and bright, shining skin,
seductive in her eyes when she glances,
sweet in her lips when she speaks,
and never a word too many.
Slender neck, shining body,
her hair is true lapis,
her arm gathers gold,
her fingers are like lotus flowers,
ample behind, tight waist,
her thighs extend her beauty,
shapely in stride when she steps on the earth.
She has stolen my heart with her embrace,
She has made the neck of every man
turn round at the sight of her.
Whoever embraces her is happy,
he is like the head of lovers,
and she is seen going outside
like That Goddess, the One Goddess.
~ An ancient Egyptian love poem
Women have always been revered for the magickal capability to give birth to new life, and in days gone by, women were revered as being literal manifestations of the Goddess, the Divine Feminine.
When woman was God, people's way of interacting was very different. In those times, when Matriarchy and feminine succession to the Throne was normal and children would take the name of their mother, there was true equality in society.
Men knew well that they had the Goddess within of them, also, and so with a sense of true self-respect and love, everyone could live in tune with the hidden currents of Nature as equals, none above the other.
Women ruled society with love and not fear. Women were literally put on pedestals, as throned Princesses, Queens and very real and literal representations of the Goddess of Many Names. Men were real men, were chivalrous and accepted the innate divinity of women and themselves - of all life - as sacred. This tradition continued throughout the ages, despite the interference of those who want to remove people from the knowing of the importance of balance; as evidenced by the words of a well-known and very respected anthropologist become Witch ~
"It should be noted that the historical Raymond de Lasignon married a fairy named Melusina from whom the Lausignon Kings of Jerusalem and Cyprus were decended, and Melusina is one of the Names of the Witche’s Goddess.
At this time, though the people of the heaths would attend the religious ceremonies, only the priests and priestesses would be initiated, passing the tests and taking the oaths. That is, anyone well affected to the people and the cult could attend these ceremonies. This would account for the stories of the masked people who would come riding to attend the sabbat. They were known to be nobles, keeping to themselves and feasting among themselves. It was also well known that at timres six thousand people were present at one sabbat.
It may or may not be a coincidence, but the idea of chivalry arose about that time.
In an age where women were treated as drudges, and Churchmen seriously debated whether they have souls or not, the lesser nobles, that is, the class of people who were apt to attend the sabbats, suddenly evolved a code of deference to women.
It amounted to placing gracious ladies on pedestals and treating them with the greatest possible respect.
At first it seems it was only to those ladies who were willing to ‘play the game’ ; so to speak; but in time it led to the mending of manners towards the whole sex. Had this a connection with the cult of the Goddess?”
~Gerald.B Gardner
Returning to the old ways, doesn’t mean old-fashioned it seems ~ even in this day and age. Some things change; yet others stay the same? Even if they are expressed in ways commensurate with changing times.
For a man to respect and venerate a woman, is to give honor to the Divine Feminine. Through this, a man becomes aware of his own inner divinity, and is empowered on various levels of being. Accepting that woman is sacred and literally, a living goddess on Earth has the effect of lifting the veil on his own innate divinity.
The soul, or Ba to the Goddess devotees of Ancient Egypt and Atlantis, was feminine ~ and nothing has changed! The Ba is the heart, or immortal soul of a person. Now what does your heart tell you? Are we all really Divine, walking and breathing relections of the Goddess, either in male or female form? Or are we meant to be slaves to the will of others, and ashamed to be who we really are?
To restore the balance is crucial in today's world, as another of my teachers mentions:
"Healing the breach of mistrust and inequality between the sexes is essential; peace and love must begin within the individual circle"
~Deanna.J Conway
Truly, for a man to pay homage to woman, is the gateway to soul liberation and should never be ashamed of but rather embraced as a way of living. Likewise, it could be said that a woman acting like the goddess she is, knowing that within of men there is a female soul goddess waiting to emerge and empowered with this knowledge, actively creating meaningful and lasting change; is in harmony with the currents of the Great Goddess of Many Names.
