BOOK OF SHADOWS BLESSING - BLESSING SPELL FOR A BOOK OF SHADOWS

This is the complete ritual for Blessing a Book of Shadows.

You’ll need the following items for this spell:

• Book of Shadows (new, if possible)
• A black pen
• 1 green candle
  
• 1 blue candle
  
• 1 yellow candle
  
• 1 red candle
• Your wand or your power hand

Please, be sure that all your magickal tools are consecrated. You can read this post here to learn how to do it.

NOTE: If you don’t have a candle with the respective color for each quarter, you can use 4 white candles instead.

If your tradition requires casting a circle, do it now.

Place quarter candles (or the 4 white candles) around you:

• North/Earth: green
• East/Water: blue
• West/Air: yellow
• South/Fire: red

Place your Book of Shadows on your lap or hold it in one of your hands, depending if you prefer to sit on the ground or stand up.

Place your wand (or power hand) on the top of your Book of Shadows’ cover and say these words:

Hearken as the witch’s word calls to all, a gulf to ford.
Bridge the vast realities.
An it harm none, do as ye please.
Elements, protect and guard this book,
from wandering eyes and prying looks.
Fill it with thine ancient powers,
in this right and ready hour.

(facing North, pointing with wand/power hand)
Powers of the North, the East below,
help me to live, to learn, to grow.
Lend your strength and stability,
to practice the Craft and with love be free.

(facing East, pointing with wand/power hand) Powers of East, the wind, the Sky, watch over these pages with thine eye. Your wisdom and knowledge, for these I do ask, that this book be worthy of the Craft and its task.

(facing South, pointing with wand/power hand) Powers of South, Fire, and hearth, help these Shadows to prove their worth. Infuse them with all your healing and passion, so only good comes from the work that is fashioned.

(facing West, pointing with wand/power hand) Powers of West, the Water and sea, change and growth are granted by thee. Bless these pages with all that you know, that righteous readers may learn and grow.

(facing North, placing wand/power hand back on the Book of Shadows’ cover) And to the unschooled eye that see, confusing words and sophistry, lead them from these sacred pages, and bless their passage through the ages. For free will of all, and harm none, as I have willed it, it is now done. So mote it be!

Put down your wand (if you had one on your hand) on your Altar and hold the black pen. Write the previous words on the very first page of your Book of Shadows. You can also draw a pentagram or decorate the page as you like. Take your time! When you finish the process of writing and decorating your ‘Book of Shadows Blessing’ page, close it, thank the presence of the Elements and place it on your Altar and blow the candles out.

If you did cast a circle earlier, now is the time to banish it.

Now your Book of Shadows is fully blessed and ready to be used! Please remember that a Book of Shadows is a very important and personal tool for a witch or Wiccan. Try to avoid other people touching and reading it, unless that’s your will and remember to cleanse your magickal tools from time to time, to keep their energy 'pure’.
