"Hindu Naga" By Kimberley Crick

Nagas are the pre-Aryan Indigenous Serpent Deities of India. They are half-human, half serpent; and live in palaces decorated with the finest, love jewellery and good music; and were always seen as beneficial or ambivalent Goddesses and Gods.

Serpent Worship is still very alive in Southern India, where the Cobra in particular is viewed with utmost reverence.

The Naga is also a multi-headed Cobra, and is often seen in spiritual art works , acting as a protective umbrella over the heads of Deities.

The Naga symbolises the vital energies of the Earth, as well as unspoilt Nature, and the potential harmony that is to be discovered in again becoming in tune with the Natural world. They act as guardians of the treasures of Nature.

Naga Panchami

Nāga Panchami is a Hindu festival organized in almost every part of India. According to the Hindu lunar calendar the festival is held on Panchami (the fifth day or "tithi" of the fortnight or "paksha") in Shravan (Shravanam) month. In the Gregorian calendar it is July and August.

The Goddess Manasa is the primal Serpent Goddess of India. Many times, a person has been saved from certain death by snakebite, by invoking the healing powers of the Goddess Manasa Devi, whose worship as the Queen of Snakes extends back to an unknown antiquity.
