A group of friends from New Zealand have waded through waters off the coast of Victoria to reach a minuscule island and claim it for their home country.
The group of six shared their experience to social media, reaching out to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to get her professional opinion on the need for foreigners to obtain a visa before visiting the newly claimed territory.
The young pioneers claimed the island was 'there for the taking' and they wanted to do it for their country.
While the land is not yet charted on Google Maps, the team are working on getting their newly settled land the recognition they say it deserves.
'The permanently visible landmass is currently unnoticed by Google however contact has been made to ensure that recognition of this lustrous landscape is upheld,' adventurer Jeremy Shanks wrote on Instagram.
'Today, six pioneers, Lucy McRae, Liana Clark, Jeremy Shanks, Jacob Real, Tanika Brown lead by expedition leader Nicholas Fausch ventured into the unknown depths of the Eildon Pondage to discover and claim a thriving landmass for New Zealand.
'As decided by majority the team, the name of this island will be known as New New Zealand Island or NNZI for short.'
'NNZI has multiple attractions such as it's thriving supply of mint, black swans and very slippery rocks.'
The group, who were bored at the time they decided to embark on the adventure, erected a flag on the north-east side of the island.
'A New Zealand flag was erected to ensure proper recognition of the island. To ensure New Zealand's laws are upheld, any visitors from other than Australia must apply through New Zealand's immigration website,' the post read.
New New Zealand's founders have followed in the footsteps of the pioneers who founded Sealand, a micronation on an abandoned sea fort from WW2 near Britain.
Frestonia, which popped up in London's Freston Street, is another example of a micronation that forced its way into existence.
The Frestonian community, comprised primarily of squatters, forged their own path as a sovereign state.
They created a national anthem and applied for induction into the United Nations to certify their sovereignty.
While the six founders of New New Zealand Island are yet to discuss their big ideas for the little island, officially located in the heart of Eildon in Victoria, they have already confirmed they will be heading back to monitor the island as soon as possible.
