I guess not everyone would call their Dad a pirate, lol
Maybe it's all in your  perception of what that word means
Words are powerful

To me its someone  who lives their life in freedom.
Freedom from judging any other except his  own behaviour,
Freedom from holding back in doing what is right because of  fear.
Making mistakes into lessons learned,
And walking with a sacred  grace by turning wounds into badges of honour
and making them meaningful and  using their power to help others.

My father could look at hate and learn  love,
could witness violence and see through the veil to find the sorrow that lay  behind it

He grew up in an Indian boarding school where the governments and  churches waged war
against children.
He used to tell me, "there was no  comfort there for any of the children, no comfort"
And so, when I was born,  he named me "Adawehi Imani"... Angel of Comfort

I was the child of his old age and as I grew, he realized that I saw the world through his own eyes.

He had every reason to be  angry, bitter and cold, but he was none of these things.
He learned love from  hate, compassion from cruelty and he was fearless he loved the open sea and the wind in his face.

He was a pirate

And so it was with my father and so it is with me.
