Strike Back At Puppy Mills: Sign Petition For USDA Reform

For dogs in puppy mills, life is suffering day in and day out for their entire lives. They’re often crowded into tiny, filthy wire-floor cages. Mother dogs are forced to churn out puppies at every opportunity with no recovery time between litters and without adequate veterinary care. Some of these dogs will never see the light of day or feel grass beneath their paws, and most will never feel a soft blanket, play with a toy or know human affection.  Because commercial breeders are licensed and inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), you may assume these horrors are few and far between. But the truth is the USDA's breeder regulations fall far short of ensuring humane treatment of the dogs at these facilities—and open the door for this very mistreatment.  Last September, the ASPCA filed a joint petition urging the USDA to improve its protections for dogs in puppy mills by adopting strong, commonsense standards of care, including annual veterinary examinations, larger cage sizes and responsible breeding practices.  It’s been a year since the petition was filed and the USDA has yet to respond. Unless we make our voices heard loud and clear, these vulnerable dogs will continue to live in misery.
