Mawu is one of the most ancient and revered of African Goddesses. A Creator Goddess, and is sometimes , in a very similar fashion to Mami Wata, portrayed as male, leading some to believe that either Mawu was originally a female Goddess and there were later changes of sexual identity due to social pressures, or that the Goddess was sometimes portrayed as Androgynous as was often the case amongst all ancient peoples to show the blending of male and female principles. Mawu is also known as Lisa.

Mawu is One with  the Great Goddess, Mother Nature, and She is shown here holding another planet over which She rules.
