Druidry as a spiritual way and practice that speaks to three of our greatest yearnings: to be fully creative in our lives, to commune deeply with the world of Nature, and to gain access to a source of profound wisdom. Each of these yearnings comes from a different aspect of ourselves that we can personify as the Singer, the Shaman and the Sage. In Druidry, Bardic teachings help to nurture the singer, the artist or storyteller within us: the creative self; Ovate teachings help to foster the shaman, the lover of Nature, the healer within us; while the Druid teachings help to develop our inner wisdom: the sage who dwells within each of us.

And this is what you say is a civilizing, peaceful influence on Pagans and freedom of Religion, Ray
13. And if any believe not in Allah and His Messenger, We have prepared, for those who reject Allah, a Blazing Fire!
Surah 53, The Star
19. Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza,
20. And another, the third (goddess), Manat?
21. What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female?
22. Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair!
27. Those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names.
28. But they have no knowledge therein. They follow nothing but conjecture; and conjecture avails nothing against Truth.
14. Then, when We decreed (Solomon's) death, nothing showed them his death except a little worm of the earth, which kept (slowly) gnawing away at his staff: so when he fell down, the Jinns saw plainly that if they had known the unseen, they would not have tarried in the humiliating Penalty (of their Task).
15. There was, for Saba, aforetime, a Sign in their home-land - two Gardens to the right and to the left. "Eat of the Sustenance (provided) by your Lord, and be grateful to Him: a territory fair and happy, and a Lord Oft-Forgiving!
16. But they turned away (from Allah., and We sent against them the Flood (released) from the dams, and We converted their two garden (rows) into "gardens" producing bitter fruit, and tamarisks, and some few (stunted) Lote-trees.
17. That was the Requital We gave them because they ungratefully rejected Faith: and never do We give (such) requital except to such as are ungrateful rejecters.
40. One Day He will gather them all together, and say to the angels, "Was it you that these men used to worship?"
41. They will say, "Glory to Thee! our (tie) is with Thee - as Protector - not with them. Nay, but they worshipped the Jinns: most of them believed in them."
42. So on that Day no power shall they have over each other, for profit or harm: and We shall say to the wrong-doers, "Taste ye the Penalty of the Fire,- the which ye were wont to deny!"
What religion are you, Mr Ray?
My Mother and her Mothers before her are Arabian Pagans and we know nothing of your barbarism or reports of "barbaric", as you put it, practices. The Goddess was worshipped first in Arabia .
Allat is Her Name. This Name means Female God, The Goddess, and our ancient traditions are not your barbaric.
Your use of the term barbaric when referring to Pagan Arabic people puts a few things into clearer perspective for me, now.. It was classic class warfare by an oppressive regime that thought nothing of eating live human flesh and cruel tortures.
You are a liar
My father was a Witch of the Old Religion and my family knew of the Caer in Worcester
~are there no DRUIDS here?
On the negative side Druidism it appears to have been about ethnic identity and feelings of superiority.
or is that comment merely to indicate your knowledge of Druidry in general? I mean, Ray, "appears to have been" - I believed that Druidry is alive and well nowadays. In fact there are even some African Druids, and even Druidesses to the best of my current knowledge. Actually I do enjoy the friendship of two who are right here at Temple Illuminatus.
Hello, Ray
Your views are interesting and I thank you for the information on the Ness of Brogdar .
Owls are sacred to the Goddess and the Indian Goddess Lakshmi also has an Owl as a sacred bird. I don't know what the Owl has to do with the discussion?
The term animism in itself is an umbrella term describing many Nature-based forms of spirituality.
Religions came about in my humble opinion because humankind lost touch with Mother Nature and could no longer accept death as completely natural in itself. The fear of death and the question, "what happens to me after death" is in my view the main reason for Religion.
In the Koran, there are numerous references which are anti-Pagan. Does the reference to Druids correlate with the generally anti-Pagan sentiment in the Koran? I must say I have never seen the quotation mentioning Druids- please would you be so kind as to provide a reference to this specific quotation? Thank you in advance.
A faith born in Wisdom is one after my own. I am very honored to be a member of the group.
Yes indeed, Ray, after so many years of prosecutions it was only in the sixties that the revival of our ancient heritage and traditions began again. And just look where Wicca is today!
I really don't mean to contradict you on the last few points however it is an accepted fact that the entire continent of Africa and the Ancient Near East and the Indian subcontinent were at one time referred to as Aethiopia. The rulers of this region were always known under the name of Serpent Queen or Serpent King - Naginah Nagast, Negusa Nagast - Naga being the root word for Serpent.
Unfortunately as we are all aware, the records of the past have been given a good whitewashing by successive waves of the male-dominated religions over the millennia.
The actual archaeological proofs which remain a testament to an Age lost to us, really challenge and upset the conventional academic's views on our past, though..
There is ample and abundant proof of the trade and cultural interactions between the various peoples in this region from the earliest times onwards.
If ancient Britons were in Africa at the time you mention, then they would have been Serpent Worshippers.
I personally look at the descriptions of Pagan traditions by the new patriarchal religions as being fundamentally biased in the extreme and thus unreliable to use as source material- particularly when one is Pagan and has some concern over the fact that even the modern definition of a Pagan is Christianized.
It all did start with Nature, and that is why Serpent Worship is probably the most natural of all.
The Vedas were around a long, long time before Zoroaster, one of the first proponents of patriarchal dualism.
I am the kind of gal who likes things to upset the conventional applecart, didn't you know?
Thats 3.7 million years old, found in the same fossil strata., in the USA.
Aside from this, there is proof in abundance of advanced mining for gold, silver, platinum and Haematite in Southern Africa. Some of the tools and activities have been tentatively dated to between 80 000 and 100 000 years ago.
This means simply that a civilization existed at the time which would have had the need for precious metals and minerals. A primitive caveman would not have the advanced technology to mine so deep uinderground, and for what? A trinket or bauble?
These sort of facts make me at least really question the so called experts especially when they start making sweeping statements based in the work of conventional and acceptable mainstream science.
" According to Bardic tradition, the Gwyddoniad were the aboriginal 'wise ones' who existed in the British Isles before Druidism was organised"
¬Doreen Valiente
So if the Africans were holding rituals 100 000 years ago, what were ancient Britons doing at the time?
Blessed Be
...
" ...the Druidic Trinity a tradition archaeologically 6000 years (that is the oldest known temple complex in the world at Ness of Brodgar)"
The belief in snakes as being evil-a very subjective term at best, and associated with the Devil of patriarchal mythology, began around 4000 BCE. with the advent of the new Religions.
Serpents are indeed universal in symbolism among all ancient cultures, Ray.
I persoanlly have no doubt that the various accounts of Druidry being very closely associated with the Serpent and Winged Serpent, or Dragon are accurate.
Again it is the layout of the Temples which interests me tremendously. Why the same layout, the upright stone which was a characteristic of Ophite Temples within the outer circle, the same use of pillars-albeit, Delphi to a far smaller scale ~ and the intimate links with both astronomy and astrology?
Astrology and Astronomy were never considered separate disciplines back then. It is in fact the invention of a fear-based mythical Devil of evil and the dualism which states that there must be a single and supreme male god, which undermines both Natural Science and Magick which retarded our progress in this field for centuries..
Before the regression of mankind, which was as a direct consequence of the replacement of the Mother Goddess with the patriarchy in all of it's various and nefarious guises, the spiral was always considered to be simply an expression of the Great Goddess, and thus is within all living in myriad forms.
In the Triple Goddess Tradition, the fourth aspect or face of Feminine Divinity is the Enchantress while the fifth is the Holy Spirit, the Great Goddess.
We don't need a devil:)
The idea of a continuous cycle of death, followed by successive periods of re-birth, a period of flourishing and then decline and death once more has always been part of humankind's spirituality.
All civilizations were founded on the Lunar cyclical principle so my feeling is that these ancient Temples, though years and generations apart and thousands of miles away from one another, bore the same messages; which were holistic in scope covering all fields of Natural Science, or Magick.
Blessed Be
