One of the best foods for the thyroid gland just happens to be mushrooms.
There are so many varieties to choose from too. Cremini, enoki, oyster, Portobello, shiitake or white button—all mushrooms are loaded with essential nutrients because of their high content of iodine, Vitamin D and many other anti-oxidant qualities.

Our immune systems do a great job of protecting us, but some conditions are actually caused by inflammation because the immune system is OVER active. Allergies are a great example of this. Then you’re in a dilemma between wanting to boost immunity but keep the inflammation processes down.

Mushrooms are the answer! This is because they accelerate the secretion of salivary immunoglobulin A (sIgA). SIgA can boost immunity without causing an inflammatory response.
A study found that just by eating one cup of cooked button mushrooms every day for a week sIgA secretions increased by 50%. Even better the sIgA secretions stayed at those kind of levels for a week even after they stopped eating the mushrooms.

Mushrooms are also known to contain phytochemicals like beta-glucan which is a super immune boosting compound.
This is all great information for the elderly or immune compromised, but remember you can’t just eat one cup of mushrooms and expect it to work forever, the results are only there if you keep eating mushrooms as a regular part of your diet.

Mushrooms also have a whole bunch of anticancer properties, from specialized lectins that prevent cancer cells from growing and dividing, to specific enzyme inhibitors that protect against breast cancer.

Plus mushrooms are super high in selenium which has been identified as a key trace mineral in the treatment of cancers.
An analysis of seven studies published last year in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention showed that the higher the level of selenium (measured in blood serum) the lower the risk of bladder cancer.

Just 100 grams of raw crimini have 47% of your daily needs, cooked shiitakes have 45% and raw white button have 17%.

Selenium is a vital component needed by the thyroid to manage calcium absorption. He recommends that patients with thyroid conditions, or those who want to maintain healthy thyroid function, include foods rich in selenium in their daily diet. Selenium-rich foods include seafood, shellfish, eggs, beef liver and beef kidneys. Wheat germ, sesame seeds, Brazil nuts, mushrooms, garlic and onions are other good sources of selenium.

The family of vegetables that can affect the thyroid include cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli and Brussels sprouts. Cooking the cruciferous vegetables, however, can reduce the effects of the ingredients that harm the thyroid.

Goitrogens
Foods like peanuts block the absorption of iodine.
Goiter is a condition characterized by an enlarged thyroid gland. Foods that contain goitrogens are said to block the absorption of iodine, an essential ingredient in healthy thyroid function. Goitrogens include those vegetables that are in the cruciferous family as well as soybeans, pine nuts and peanuts. http://www.livestrong.com/article/23581-foods-good-thyroid-function/

Reishi extracts offers potential support for cardiovascular issues, infectious disease, liver detoxification, arthritis pain, asthma and other respiratory and immune system disorders. Basically head to toe coverage. zycohen.com/articles/mushroom-power-plant-of-immortality/

Let’s get to the good stuff
Studies have shown that Reishi can help improve cholesterol ratios and control blood sugar. Just look at all the benefits:
• Anti-inflammatory
• Antihistamine
• Antiviral
• Antibacterial
• Improves cholesterol ratios
• Modulates immune function
• Adrenal adaptagen
• Thyroid stimulating (mild)
• Improves mood
Reishi is fabulous during the winter season. It gently stimulates your thyroid gland to make a little bit more thyroid hormone and that helps with energy and weight.

The thyroid hormones may not work as regulated when there is insufficient protein. To be at a position to meet the protein and fatty acid levels it is important to understand that, seafood are a source of nutrients. And all animal by products such as meat, milk and eggs are best preferred to be in organic form.

Apart from the earlier mentioned foods, vegetables are also very health for a thyroid. Some of the vegetables include tomatoes, mushrooms, potatoes; pumpkin, potatoes and sea kelp are a good form of nutrition.

When it comes to meats, the most advocated for are chicken, fish and beef. Fruits such as raspberries, pineapples and cherries are very helpful in the production of hypothyroid hormones.http://hypothyroidismtalk.com/great-food-thyroid-cure.html
