An introduction to Lucifer, Lord of Light

 

Long before the Name Lucifer was made synonymous with a Devil of evil, it signified Light and Illumination, which are Yang characteristics. Many Divinities were called by this Name, and variants thereof, such as the Goddess Juno Lucina and Diana Lucifera.

The name itself was fundamentally misinterpreted to mean a name of the devil, yet it always represented something altogether different from that in ancient times.

Lucifer means "Light-Bringer" or "Herald of Light", and was always associated with the Star of Venus, which alternately rises in the Eastern and Western skies around sunrise and sunset respectively.

 

 

 

The Pentagram as a symbol of Earth and the Elements unified by Spirit, is really one of the very oldest known symbols of the Divine. When pointing downwards, it represents the Horned God and Divine Masculine Principle of the Universe.

The Latin word Lucifer is a translation from the Greek “ Xosphoruos” meaning bright shiner or shining one. From xosphoruos we get the English phosphorescent and fluorescence. But Lucifer is a purely Latin word and was translated from the original Hebrew “hehlehl” or “eill”, meaning “howl” or “howling wind” from the text from the original Aramaic and Hebrew bibles as follows:

 

Isa: 15.2 :  iilil  - shall howl

Isa : 23.1 : eililu – howl ye

Jer 48.20 : eilili - howl

Jer 48.31 : ailil – will howl

Zeph 1.11 : aililu – howl

 

Is it pure coincidence that this word is almost identical to the Names Lili , Lilu or Lilitu, or Ardat- ili;  bearing in mind that Lucifer is the same and “other half” of Lilith?

The Darkness, the Shining Light, the Spirit of the Night – to my mind a remarkable synchronicity and not mere co-incidence.

The Voice of the Wind, the very Life - Breath that is Aether, the mysterious substance that makes things grow. The darkness of Yin gives birth to the Light of Yang from within. As the moonlight wanes and the dawn of the Sun's passage through the Heavens approaches, a herald appears to welcome in a new cycle of waxing and waning yet again, in a continuous cycle of life and death renewed.

 

The dynamic between the Goddess and God of the Universe ~ A Tale of Creation

 

"Diana was the first created before all creation; in her were all things; out of herself, the first darkness, she divided herself; into darkness and light she was divided. Lucifer, her brother and son, herself and her other half, was the light.

And when Diana saw that the light was so beautiful, the light which was her other half, her brother Lucifer, she yearned for it with exceeding great desire. Wishing to receive the light again into her darkness, to swallow it up in rapture, in delight, she trembled with desire. This desire was the Dawn.

But Lucifer, the light, fled from her, and would not yield to her wishes; he was the light which flies into the most distant parts of heaven, the mouse which files before the cat.

Then Diana went to the fathers of the Beginning, to the mothers, the spirits who were before the first spirit, and lamented unto them that she could not prevail with Lucifer. And they praised her for her courage, they told her that to rise she must fall; to become the chief of goddesses she must become a mortal.

And in the ages, in the course of time, when the world was made, Diana went on earth, as did Lucifer, who had fallen, and Diana taught magic and sorcery, whence came witches and fairies and goblins−all that is like man, yet not mortal.

And it came thus that Diana took the form of a cat. Her brother had a cat whom he loved beyond all creatures, and it slept every night on his bed, a cat beautiful beyond all other creatures, a fairy: he did not know it.

Diana prevailed with the cat to change forms with her, so she lay with her brother, and in the darkness assumed her own form, and so by Lucifer became the mother of Aradia. But when in the morning he found that he lay by his sister, and that light had been conquered by darkness, Lucifer was extremely angry; but Diana sang to him a spell, a song of power, and he was silent, the song of the night which soothes to sleep; he could say nothing. So Diana with her wiles of witchcraft so charmed him that he yielded to her love. This was the first fascination, she hummed the song, it was as the buzzing of bees (or a top spinning round), a spinning−wheel spinning life. She spun the lives of all men; all things were spun from the wheel of Diana. Lucifer turned the wheel."

Lucifer loves animals ~

 

Lucifer loves all animals; and the animals probably most associated with The Lord of Light are white mice and the Peacock, as well as Crows and other birds which herald the dawn and herald prophecy.

 

Maha-Kala, or Shiva, shares the white mice with Lucifer as His sacred animal.

 

The Peacock is also the sacred animal of the Queen of Serpents, Goddess Manasa Devi, Goddess Hera, and Juno Lucina; and it is also in ancient Chinese Wisdom that the true nature and identity of the Peacock is revealed, as the Phoenix.

 

 

The Phoenix is the most sacred Chinese animal, together with the Dragon. A symbolic union between the Phoenix and the Dragon, is signified by Love and Balance ~ the Yin-Yang.

 

 

In many other ancient cultures, the Phoenix is the symbol of Enlightenment and re-birth. The Phoenix brings significant Change, which is a Constant Dynamic in the Universe.

 

 

The Phoenix is immortal, as although it lives for many years, even thousands, the individual Phoenix does eventually perish. The sacred bird lays one single egg, and then self-ignites on the pyre it has made of myrrh and other aromatic twigs, burning away to a pile of ashes.

A new Phoenix cracks open the shell of the golden egg, and is reborn of the essence of it’s ancestors.

 

 

The Peacock is often associated with vanity and pride; however, the strutting pose of a male Peacock in full mating plumage is something so glorious to behold, that even the most reluctant and shy Pea-hen must eventually give in to his charm and persistence! The Glory and Splendour of Nature makes resistance to Love pointless.

 

Prometheus in exile; and the freedom and liberation of vital wisdom shut away from the people; a patriarchal tale wherein the suppression of esoteric knowledge which provides the Key to Illumination is withheld from the people by the dominant and restrictive Patriarchal belief systems.
