HELP SAVE MONTANA’S WOLVES! TAKE ACTION Dear Kathleen, We’re very close to achieving a breakthrough program to help save Montana’s wolves and other threatened wildlife -- but we need you to make your voice heard right now in support of this exciting proposal. It’s called the Wolf Conservation Stamp -- and NRDC has been working closely with the state of Montana to develop this plan that will directly benefit -- even save the lives of -- wolves, grizzlies and other wildlife in the state. The Wolf Stamp -- a decal you would receive in the mail, not a postage stamp -- is a simple mechanism for allowing those who love wildlife to help fund the cost of conserving that wildlife. Until now, Montana’s wildlife management has been funded, almost exclusively, by the sale of licenses for hunting, trapping and fishing -- with predictable results. The Wolf Stamp will balance things out; it’s like a license to save wildlife. And it will cost only $20. Under this proposed program, anyone in the country could purchase one or more Wolf Conservation Stamps, with the guarantee that the money would pay directly and exclusively for the conservation of wolves and other wildlife in Montana. Specifically, Wolf Stamps would pay for: Saving wolves and grizzlies by funding nonlethal means for reducing conflicts with livestock -- like electric fencing, guard dogs and riders on horseback. Purchasing and protecting vital wolf habitat, monitoring and studying the wolf population and educating the public about wolf conservation. Hiring additional wardens to enforce wildlife protection laws in wolf habitat. Simply put, the proposed Wolf Stamp would make it easy for anyone who cares about wolves to contribute directly toward conserving, studying and creating more habitat for wolves in Montana. While Montana’s Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks has been collaborating with NRDC to develop the Wolf Stamp, the agency is still skeptical that anybody would want to donate $20 per stamp to support wolf conservation in Montana. Let’s prove them wrong! Please send a message right now and let them know, from every corner of the country, that you support wolf conservation in the land of the Big Sky! The comment deadline is July 25, so please do it right now. Other states are watching closely. If the stamp succeeds in Montana, state wildlife agencies across the country could develop similar proposals to help save wolves and other wildlife.
