Why I wish to join The Temple & how I found out about it...
I am a previous member invited initially by the founder, Leila Raven - now returning after a lengthy period of absence.
About Myself & My Interests...
I am an 80 year old retired classical scholar, teacher & lecturer in musicology, recitalist & conductor but still involved in research, giving tutorials in Keltic Metaphysics on line and composing music (mainly choral & organ by commission). I have now been married for over 30 gloriously happy years to Sîan - a most wonderful, loving and caring lady whom I love most dearly.
Old Gareth lives in a wheelchair with no legs & multiple health problems but I'm still breathing and adapting well spacially so life can't be all bad. lol
It's 70 years since I had the old Welsh legends recounted to me as a 10 year old and my whole life has been centred around the major pantheon therein.
My website "Kaer Dathyl" has been on line since early 1990s - an exposition of the hereditary family of Y Plant Dôn - The Children of Dôn who revere the pantheon from the Fourth Branch Mabinogi. Those who choose to enter Kaer Dathyl may savour the Keltic spirit therein.
Now after considerable expansion, it may be seen at the following URL:- http://www.yplantdon.com. You will be very welcome to visit where you can meet "the family" and learn a little of this Welsh tradition with access to a lengthy taxonomy of the Major Deities, philosophical approaches and texts, etc. unique to Y Plant Dôn with some tangential references to Sanskrit & quantum physics.
It is a VIRTUAL TEXTBOOK on theoretical & practical Keltic Metaphysics! All are very welcome to visit and stay awhile.
I try to provide some inspiration to the few Kelts who study this website. It may be used, however, for the microscopy of other pantheons via the Metaphysical Law of Analogy.
I am neither a Druid, witch nor Wiccan (although I have had much interaction with the Sanders and one of Gardner's early High Priestesses) but class myself as a mystic & metaphysician. When pressed to hang a label around my neck, I usually say I am a Keltic Cosmotheist who works with his wife as a pro bono Consultant Metaphysician, hypnotherapist & hypnoanalyst.
My Teachers & Influences, What was it about them that influenced me?
The interest shown to me as an individual by college lecturers & tutors plus that important character trait owned by some - charisma.
Authors and/or Books I appreciate:
The Mabinogion; Red Book Hergest; White Book Rhydderch; Black Book Caermyrddin and works on psychology (especially Jungian) and the works of the German philosophers. The Cranwell Lectures. Indeed when it was not only fashionable but also mandatory to be a Freudian, I was a confirmed Jungian!
Musicians and/or Music I appreciate:
From the following Periods of composition:-
Baroque - Bach, Buxtehude & Handel
Classical - Beethoven & Gluck
Romantic - Wagner, Liszt, Brahms, Elgar & Puccini
Nationalist - Borodin, Cui, Balakirev, Moussorgsky
Rimsky-Korsakov (the Russian "Five")
Modern - Holst, Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Vaughan Williams,
Elgar, Menotti & Mahler
Big Band swing and Modern Jazz
New-Age Impressionism
Films and/or Film-Makers & Actors I appreciate:
Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Robert de Niro, Anthony Hopkins, Denzel Washington, Gene Hackman, Nicolas Cage, Morgan Freeman, Ian McKellen, Jack Nicholson, Jack Lemon, Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley, Sir John Gielgud.
Artists and/or Art I appreciate:
Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, Maurice de Vlaminck

It may indeed be so- Hagar being Moses' wife and definitely of Egyptian origins it may well be!
So much as been obscured deliberately over the millennia that we sometimes only have the barest of facts to compare with. However the Lost City of Ophir is an ancient Ophite city.
Personally I am of the opinion that Ophir was the capital of Ereshkigal and was situated nearby the Victoria falls in Zimbabwe all the years ago. There is certainly enough evidence in the way of the stone Horus hawk statues, the ruins of Monomotapa and the extensive evidence of advanced mining techniques having been employed in Southern Africa some 50-100 000 years ago if not more to suggest that Africa as a continent was part of both the ancient Egyptian and Sumerian centres of civilization.
To answer your question and to clarify things , I am first a Goddess devotee and an Ophite, or Serpent worshipper. I really resonate with the Wiccan traditions as there are many similarities between ancient Ophite ways and those of Wicca. Gerald Gardner and Doreen Valiente are of my teachers.
Really speaking I am completely eclectic in my approach and love to learn from all valid Paths as my view accords with that of Doreen Valiente who commented once that
" What appears to be borrowing from another tradition, is really the bringing together of many things which all have the same common origin".
Thanking you for the stimulating conversation we are enjoying in the Dark Goddess group. Blessed Be
Hi Gareth,
Thank you for you lovely welcome. Everyone is so welcoming. I'm still finding my way around. It gets a bit confusing, in some areas, but I haven't stalled yet. It is now 3:30 am in NZ and I'm up and about to watch the World Cup. All very exciting.
What does the word 'Koft" mean, pray tell? As in "Brythonic Koft." I hope you get a chuckle out of my ignorance. I'm an American, as you probably surmise.
Your words are fair to the hearing and a pleasure to absorb, friend, brother, rider of gallant steed. As sweet claret to the senses and the draught of reassurance that I truly loved to savour this Friday the thirteenth.
Hi, Gareth, thank you for your kind welcome. I have had 4 so far on my first day as member, I like this site already. I am an informal researcher into things energetic. If you are interested I would like to send you my blog address, don't worry if you are not, I do not get offended. Namaste, Chis
