The origins of the mysterious Rain Queen, Modjadji, have always been shrouded in mystery.
As one meanders down into the Cycad forest which forms part of the Queen's realm, a feeling of timelessness, of something from the deepest antiquity, is strangely tangible in the atmosphere.
Throughout ancient cultures from all over the world there were many Rain Goddesses, such as the Winged Medusa whom the farmers in North Africa and the Mediterranean used to venerate so that the much-needed rain could fall from the Heavens down to Earth and miraculously make things grow.
However we do not have to travel far from Limpopo to discover the actual origins of the Rain Queen.
In Zimbabwe, a few hundred miles from the Modjadji forest, lie the ancient city ruins of Monomatapa.
Many years ago, the people of Modjadji - of the vast Regency of Monomatapa - decided to relocate down South and abandon the ancient central temple complex. This was because of the displacement of the African peoples as a result of the Arab and later European slave trade and the subsequent warfare and mass migrations of people which followed.
As we can clearly see, the overall layout of the Monomatapa ruins are very much the same as we find with certain other well-known circular structures from all over the world.
Naturally over the years and mainly due to religious vandalism, the obvious similarities between these circular ruins from all over and their actual functions have been masked from view.
And they all have a same common root!
To be continued...

(my comments on the video ~
"Looking back, the role of women was relatively minor" Queens are elected because women have a relatively high status in society, so with all due respect this does not add up. As Credo Mutwa said; "In the beginning, God was a woman, The Cosmic Mother" There is much evidence which points to the fact that before the advent of the warrior cults, women enjoyed equal status to men, and in fact served central roles in society. Thank you for a very interesting video.
